I was diagnosed with a congenital heart abnormality (Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome) at 36 weeks. I had 4-5 EKGs done in my last weeks of pregnancy and Ive had more since.

Its a quick, painless procedure. Nothing to worry about.

I've had them done as part of research studies I've participated in. As others say, they are painless and quick. Hopefully they'll be able to figure out why you keep fainting.

Yes, I had them at least monthly and never had a problem. I fainted at 6 weeks and continued to have issues with tachychardia (sudden fast heartbeat) for the rest of the pregnancy. Luckily I never fainted again. I also wore a portable heart monitor for a month.

If you continue to have issues, I would highly recommend seeing a cardiologist. My doctors originally dismissed my issues as normal pregnancy stuff, but turned out that I had an extra electrical pathway in my heart that was misfiring as a result of the added stress pregnancy puts on the body. I had a relatively simple procedure (cardiac ablation) after my LO was born and shouldn't have the problem again.

ETA: Reread my post and didn't mean to sound so scary! Just aware that OBs can sometimes be quick to dismiss symptoms as a "normal pregnancy thing" and not explore any further.

I had an EKG in this pregnancy to test for something related to my gestational diabetes. In my first pregnancy I had everything done to test for a heart condition -- EKG, stress test (the dangerous one where I had to sign a paper stating that I was not pregnant at the time... which I thought was accurate at the time), echocardiogram, and monitored with a holter monitor. They were able to diagnose me with PVC (premature ventricular contractions). I was worried, but LO turned out to be perfectly healthy with no problems.

Oh gosh! I haven't had that done but I do have fainting issues too. I haven't actually fainted but it starts getting dark/spotty. I hope everything goes well at your appointment lady I'm definitely bringing this up with my OB Wednesday

@SeptMomma12: You must have the same thing I have. I have the extra electrical pathways in my heart also. They caught it when I was pregnant because of the added stress on my body too.

@LovelyPlum: like SeptMomma, it showed up when I was pregnant due to the extra stress on my body. I started having dizziness and episodes of tachycardia in my mid-2nd trimester. I went in to the ER at 30 weeks and they didn't find anything wrong (WPW doesnt always show up on an EKG, although it has on every one since). I went in for my 36 week appointment with a heart rate of 150+ and they sent me immediately to the ER again and I was diagnosed right then and there. I've been in consultation to get the same ablation procedure done, but I've been totally asymptomatic since a couple months after giving birth.
