I am really having trouble making it through the day. I think it is pregnancy-related fatigue. I know a lot of pregnant women get tired... What were your tricks for making it through the work day when it felt like you could pass out at your desk?

I had it bad til about 14 weeks. If you can, try to get up and walk around as much as you can, get outside for a couple of minutes every couple of hours at least....I drank coffee all through my pregnancy so that obviously helped a lot! Basically i think i just muddled through until it passed.

@mrscobee: I swear decaf coffee helped a couple of days!! It may have been in my head or that little bit of caffeine you get - but it worked.
Also - getting outside in the cold for a quick walk just to get that fresh air!

I'm taking medication to help with my m/s and the medication does make me tired. I've been getting up and eating snacks but here I am at my desk and I want to take a nap. I'm slowly getting work done.

I took a nap in my office, walking helps and citrus fruit (Yes that is a weird one but I felt energized when I had an orange)

I'm at 37 weeks, and from 2-5 I'm exhausted. Lots of ice water, I get up and walk, but right now I'm taking car naps at lunch, they help a little. In all honestly I do whatever I can to make it through the day, and some days that means caffeine.

When I had first trimester fatigue and felt like I could fall asleep at the desk, I ate some fruit. I felt like the sugars in it gave me some energy. At home when I ran into this and had easier access to a fridge, I would eat some yogurt. I usually perked up a little in 15 or so minutes.

Coffee. I drink a cup of half caf in the morning, so I can have another. Sometimes I go into a back room and do squats or jumping jacks.

That was why I had to tell my boss early lol I could barely keep up! I didn't have any remedies, I hope it goes away for you soon!

I literally kept a sleeping bag and pillow and an eyemask below my desk and I would wolf down something at my desk and sleep in my office during lunch. I put up a privacy sign and everything.

I struggled with fatigue my entire pregnancy...it was awful. I once fell asleep on the toilet at work....
Anyway. Tips:
If you have your own office (I did) lie down on the floor, even if you only have 5-10 minutes it can help! I had a little pillow and would do this often!
Take a brisk walk. It's best if you can get outside, but stairs works too! I would force myself to go right after eating lunch, and try to get my heart rate up.
Ice cold water. Drink it. Put it on your wrists. Splash it on your face.
Peppermint essential oils- I'm not a essential oil person (At All), but I would put a little on my wrists or use some to wipe down my desk.
Eat regular snacks. Protein snacks, not carbs. Have almonds, Lara bars, whatever works for you, and eat every two hours or so.
I would come home from work and take a twenty minute nap every day. And then go to bed at 8:00.
This is all just reminding me of how screwed I am when I get pregnant again and have a toddler at home.

Pregnancy fatigue was so intense. I second getting up and walking around (if you're not nauseous), drinking water and putting it on your face, etc. Some days I literally had to hold my eyelids open for a minute or two. I ended up drinking half a cup of coffee every other day or so. Doctor said a cup a day was fine.

@Silva: PS I was far less beat down the second time around! AND I was on meds! I still went to bed early but didn't need midday conference room naps

@blackbird: the only reason people continue to procreate is because our brains whisper "it will be different next time" or "our children will be different." Im both optimistic, and aware of how insane it is.
I'm going to get a good sleeper next time, too I've got it all planned.

Just go home. It might seem radical but if you have sick leave use it! I regret not using more sick leave during my pregnancy. I started using it towards the end for doctor's visits (previous ly I had used flexi time I.e I made up the hours in overtime) but earlier I wish I had taken a few more days/ afternoons off due to pg related symptoms. Growing a baby is serious business, you need to take care of yourself and that includes getting lots of rest.

A midday nap wasn't possible for me since I took the train. Things that helped were walks and eating citrus fruits. The burst of citrus plus sugar!

@Silva: haha the hardest part of the second pregnancy was definitely not getting that post work nap! Or not being able to veg on the couch and ask DH to bring home takeout when he got out of work. Sigh.

Caffeine. Obviously you don't want to go crazy with it, but a cup of coffee or can of pop to get through the day is totally fine and well within the range of what is considered a safe amount.

So glad I found this post! I am EXHAUSTED once I hit like 2pm... If I am not busy at work it's really hard to get anything done. Going to try some of these ideas! Thanks!!!
