That's why we waited until we heard the heartbeat to tell anyone other than parents and siblings (and 1-2 close friends). We all told them right away NO FB and NO telling anyone else. We didn't hear the heart beat until week 14, so that's when we started letting the news spread. At week 20 was when we allowed it to be on FB, we wanted time to make sure all the important people knew so there were no feelings hurt by someone finding out on FB.

My mom is very big on facebook and we told her that she had to wait, she's the only one I was worried about, although of course we told everyone no facebook until we were ready. I made her wait until after my 12 week apt, and then a little more time because I wanted to be able to tell my close friends in person. I also didn't make a formal announcement on facebook because it's just not my thing, but I didn't mind her doing it.

I didn't give any isntructions about putting stuff on facebook when I was in labor. DH knew not to, I didn't want the whole world knowing how far dilated I was. But I was fine with people writing after LO came, I think it's an easy way to spread the word because I was too busy to call anyone myself.

Yep. My mom and I had a very specific discussion about not posting anything on Facebook whatsoever (unless it was a private inbox message) and she proceeded to write on all of her friends walls that we were expecting a baby, and exactly what our due date was. I guess she didn't understand how Facebook worked. One of my best friends saw it before I had gotten the opportunity to tell her the news myself. It was a mess. Be careful.

I actually locked my wall so the few people I told couldn't post on it or leave any ";)" on anything that would even suggest that I may be pregnant, lol
My MIL doesn't have Facebook but I was worried about my mom, she told me she was having a hard time not telling people.

I just know this is going to happen with us. I told my mom when I found out I was pregnant and told her not to tell anyone until we were ready. Well she told my grandpa like the next day and of course he didnt know any better. Luckily it wasnt on facebook but still. I just dont get it, do people not understand what respect is about private lives? I guess in a sense its good to have people so excited about it and care but seriously!

This is why we told our families at 12 weeks. We were with my blabbermouth mom and allowed her to call family and friends but asked her to stay off Facebook. She did. I don't allow anyone to write on my wall and have to approve posts before anyone will see them if someone tags me in something. Those are my safety nets against Facebook bombs. So annoying.

We didn't tell anyone until super-late because we knew someone might slip. We also forbid anyone from posting pictures of our kids. We've been super strict about it, so most people are super used to it by now.

@mamabolt: really?! how is that insulting to want to share your own big news!?!

We told our parent's when I was 8 weeks but asked not to tell anyone and that we didn't want it on facebook until I was 12 weeks. What does MIL do? Posts the photo of the 8 week ultrasound that we sent to her. She isn't facebook savvy so she didn't know how to take it down. I'm sure I've ranted about this on here before but it still makes me so mad!

We specifically told everyone we told before our public announcement not to put anything on FB. Luckily, everyone respected our wishes! We got a couple of private messages from out of town aunts wishing us well, but everyone else stayed mum until our official FB announcement!
