It's always sticky with religion. I totally agree with you but I'm usually to chicken to say anything. I feel like you won't do much to put a dent in her opinion anyway.
I always tell people there's usually a Bible in a public school in the religion section of the library. And as a school librarian, I can tell you no one ever checks it out!!

I just ignore things that people share. I don't see any reason to get into it with people I know IRL online, but I'm pretty non-confrontational and mild mannered in my extended social circle anyways

I don't comment, I've noticed thankfully that most politicial FB posts are ignored by people on my feed and no one comments, I've just never seen a constructive FB conversation.

If I had to teach religion on top of everything else, people would have even more to complain about, because I would have EVEN LESS TIME to teach reading, writing, math, social studies, science, health, and (god forbid) art.

EDIT: I didn't answer the question. I think I would have said something, but only because I'm a teacher. I'm not sure if I would have otherwise, but I get pretty feisty (read: a bitch) when it comes to stuff like that.

Umm, yes, I most definitely would have commented. Statements like that are ludicrous and have no basis in reality, so I therefore have no qualms about calling people out on it.

I don't know exactly how I would have worded my comment but it would have been something along the lines of there being no place for the bible to be taught in our public schools. People of all faiths attend public schools and to teach the religious beliefs of one group, to the exclusion of others, is not only discriminatory, but it also flies in the face of religious freedom. If a parent feels their child should be taught the lessons of the bible in school, then they have the freedom to enroll them in a school that caters to their religious denomination, but it is absolutely not ok to force religious beliefs upon all other children who may, or may not, hold the same beliefs.

I also think it's ludicrous to believe that if people were exposed to the bible in their youth, they would avoid a life of crime. There are so many social factors that lead one to criminal behavior that I find it very hard to believe a few minutes of bible study every day in school would override everything else. I also don't think the bible is exactly a model of the way we should treat others......but that might be leading in to a whole different topic so I'll leave it there.

I probably wouldn't have said anything because I'm a wimp. Of probably point if out to DH and he would probably comment because he is kind of a "Facebook troll". If she said it in front of me I would state my feelings though.

I wouldn't have said anything, cause I don't comment on stuff like that unless it says something really hateful towards a person or group of people.

Lol, yes if only Bible club was all it took to create outstanding, moral law abiding citizens. It would have saved ME a whole lot of pain and heartache in my early 20's, I can tell ya that . But alas, I had to learn character building and maturity the same as everyone else--slowly, surely, and through my mistakes and experiences.
