I had two doctor's appointments this week. On Tuesday, the little heartbeat was in the 150's (they didn't give me an exact number) and yesterday it was 172. Is it normal to vary so much? Also, is 172 really high for 11 weeks? What was your baby's fetal heart rate around this time?

Nope, those sound like normal numbers. My doctor said that heart rates tend to peek around 10 weeks and then stabilize after that.

sounds normal! I am 10 weeks tomorrow and HR was 166 ish today.

When the baby is super tiny the heartbeat is usually really fast- it takes less time for the blood to pump through the body the smaller they are. This baby's heart rate was consistently in the 160s-170s until about 30weeks. Now she averages 130-150 (I'm 37w today). Also, the heart rate is crazy inconsistent- at labor and delivery they actually want it to jump around a lot when they monitor it- it means the baby's activity levels are varying, which is good.

Throughout my pregnancy the heart rate ranged from the mid 170s all the way down to just below 140. Nothing at all to worry about at 172.

Completely normal! R's heart rate jumped around from the 140s - 160s.
