I'm almost 34 weeks and baby has hiccups 4-5 times per day. Wondering if it's normal.
Does your baby hiccup? If so, how often?
How far along are you?

Yup, my girl had crazy hiccups in the womb multiple times a day and would get them a lot after she was born until she was at least a year old but gradually lessened.

yep definitely, such a funny feeling. my girl was a hiccupy newborn as well!

Totally normal, although my firstborn had them even more often than the little one now. And they would sometimes last for what felt like an eternity.

Both of my boys hiccuped ALL THE TIME. Sometimes even when I was sleeping. Totally normal.

My LO would get them 10+ times a day. He got them a lot as a newborn as well! He's 11 weeks and still gets them at least once a day, usually twice.

I felt DD hiccup multiple times a day, everyday, when I was still pregnant. She continued to hiccup everyday even after she was born - about twice daily when she was a newborn, then gradually less as she got older. She's now 2.5 yrs old and very rare hiccups.

Definitely normal! My daughter hiccupped like that while still in the womb. Also she continued to hiccup like that the first month after she was born. Someone told me that hiccuping is part of baby's development?

LO would hiccup all the time in the womb. She's still very prone to hiccups.

All the time. And he got the hiccups frequently until he was around a year old. He still gets them if he laughs too hard. Lol

@pui: Yes! I asked my doctor about the hiccups and she said it reflects / is part of lung development.
My son had the hiccups at least twice a day when I was pregnant. He still gets the hiccups even at 16 weeks (had them this morning).

Yep my LO had them at least once a day, usually more, the last month or two. Funny thing was that she *always* had them in the evening around 5-6pm. When she came out she still had them at that time every day.

All the time! It was the only time dh could really feel her. She hiccups a ton now too, though less now at 8 mos than when she was younger

C had them all the time, and at 11 weeks old she's still a hiccup-y baby.

LO1 had hiccups all the time, often with multiple episodes in the same hour. LO2 has them a few times a day.

I've been pregnant for 76 months and only felt hiccups maybe once.
DD1 never and maybe one time with this one, but it was only for a few seconds.

DD had them all the time. It felt like she was knocking on my pelvis trying to escape. It was especially bad sitting in my office chair but I don't know why. I had to take so many breaks in my last month to walk around the office and try to get her to move. She also had the hiccups many times a day once she was born.

This is reassuring! I read some very scary stuff on another site. I feel so much better now.

lots of hiccups in utero, lots of hiccups outside! At first, the pregnancy ones were adorable.. but after a point they became a bit annoying (like when I was trying to sleep!). LO does have reflux issues so I'm not sure if it's related.

@oliviaoblivia: I've only felt them one time, too! And it was when I woke up in the middle of the night. I wonder if feeling them has to do with baby positioning....

LO #1 hiccuped a lot... daily a bunch of times at least 2 times up to 5 times. He's a perfectly happy 2.5 year old.
This LO... not so much. *shrugs*

Yep! And they come so rapidly, like every 2 seconds for 5 minutes or so.

@CatchAFallingStar: My OB said it was a sign of good neurological development!

usually after i eat something or drink water. probably 2-3 times a day. LO #1 was the same, and she hiccuped a lot even after she was born.

How do you distinguish between hiccups and other movements? Someone asked me the other day if I had felt hiccups yet and I said no.. I assumed i'd know it if I did. But later when I was thinking about it I started wondering if the fainter more rhythmic "kicks" I sometimes feel are actually hiccups?
nectarine / 2809 posts
@Anya: hiccups are very rhythmic and you can feel them in one particular spot more than others..you'd know if you felt them
pomegranate / 3375 posts
@CatchAFallingStar: It happened all the time when I was pregnant. She usually gets them 3-5 times a week now. So, normal for us!
pomegranate / 3375 posts
@CatchAFallingStar: No I know. Sorry, I meant LO had them that often when I was pregnant. Now that she's 11 months old, she gets them 3-5 times per week. So, much less, but I always think it seems like a lot.
persimmon / 1481 posts
@Anya: they come at very distinct intervals, compared to kicks which are more random. They also tend to be lighter than kicks. It's more of an all over sensation rather than being able to pinpoint exactly where it's comihg from like with kicks.
