I have 2 friends that had babies with holes in their hearts and they are just fine!
I know they monitor for MVP for one!

Just wanted to let you know

I have two cousins who were born with holes in their hearts. One was very minor and has required minimal monitoring and one was significant enough to require multiple childhood/early surgeries.

My LO doesn’t have a hole in her heart but a minor and rare heart defect was detected during an ultrasound. We were sent to the more advanced machines at MFM, and then to the pediatric cardiologist. For LO’s defect, basically it cures itself or it doesn’t and WILL require surgery. There was a pediatric cardiologist who attended LO’s birth (scheduled c-section, so his attendance was scheduled in as well) and who performed EKG just after birth and then again before discharge, as well as ultrasounds on her heart. We had to follow-up with him following LO’s birth every couple of months for ultrasounds of LO’s heart and EKG testing. It has closed/cured on its own and so we only have to go back for testing every 5 years now.

It is very scary to hear that anything is wrong, but medical advancements are amazing these days! Good luck!

Not exactly the same, but my baby had a fetal heart arrhythmia. I was sent for a level 2 / very detailed ultrasound, although the standard protocol is to do an echocardiogram. In the end it sounded a lot scarier than it actually was, and it healed by the time of his birth.

Same situation as you, the hole closed. She is now 9 months and happy and healthy! I also switched from Obgyn to midwife when I was 26 weeks and it was the best decision I ever made.
