I think since you don't know how far along you are, you need to get in sooner. I would call back and push saying you need an U/S. Plus, the first tri screening has to be done between 11-13 weeks!

I would definitely want to go in before 12 wks...I had my first appt at 8 wks.

I'm with @T.H.O.U., call back and request an 8 week dating ultrasound. I knew exactly what day I conceived and still had a dating ultrasound, so it's crazy to me that they wouldn't offer you one. It will be nice to be able to her the heartbeat too. If you do the NT scan, you'll want to use the 8 week appointment to discuss it and make that appointment.

I know a couple of people who didn't go in until weeks 11-12, but I would ask again!

I went in at around 6 weeks so they could do a dating scan because we weren't sure how far along I was. I feel like you're in a similar situation and should get in so that you (and them!!!) can figure out how far along you are so you can book your next appointments properly!

I would definitely be calling and asking to get in sooner!

My OB saw me at 4 weeks, 5 weeks, 7 weeks, and 11 weeks. Granted, that was overkill but I would assume they would want to confirm your pregnancy and make sure to get you started on prenatals, go over the dos and don'ts, etc. (even if you've been pregnant before) before the end of your first trimester. That way they can also notify your insurance company officially.

My OB didn't do ultrasounds at her office, so everything had to be scheduled well in advance. Also, I was seen at 6 weeks due to bleeding, but my 1st appointment was scheduled for 8 weeks.

I don't know your office/scan situation, but they really need to see you before 12 weeks! I'd be mad, and would consider changing practices if that is an option!

FWIW, I was told they normally schedule patients between 6-8 weeks if everything is normal. I did have an early 5 week u/s last time.

My office doesn't see patients until their 10th week. My first appointment was actually after 12 weeks. When my mom was pregnant doctors typically didn't see you until after your first trimester.

@MrsTiz: Ok, that seems ridiculous to me. When I was in the UK for my first pregnancy, I didn't get seen until 12 weeks, but it totally stressed me out! This time around, I was seen around eight weeks. That's also when I had the dating ultrasound.

Are you committed to staying with this office? I would consider switching doctors. If they are being this difficult now about seeing you (when you are asking for an appointment), I would worry about how you would be treated during the rest of your pregnancy.

I would think that given your history, they would want to see you sooner.
My first appointment will be at 6 weeks (next week), and they said I could have come earlier if I wanted to!

I wasn't seen by my OB until the first tri screening at 12 weeks. I saw my primary care doc at four weeks for a pregnancy test, but that was it until 12 weeks.

Given your previous MC I agree with PP that you should push for an earlier appt.

@Mrs. J: I agree with this. I'd think with your history they'd have you in earlier, if for no medical reason than to relieve your fears. =/

@MrsTiz: Have you thought about just fibbing and telling them your LMP was back in December? Obviously once they see the size on the u/s they will set your due date anyways.

The first time I was pregnant, they saw me at 8 weeks, and turns out that the baby had a very weak heart rate. I went back a week later to confirm there was no heart rate and that I had a missed miscarriage.

Because of this, I went in at 7 weeks when I was pregnant with my LO. They just wanted to confirm everything was ok.

Had I not initially had the miscarriage, they said that they usually see their patients between 8 and 10 weeks. I would definitely want to go in before 12 weeks as well, so you're justified asking again!

Wait, you've had a previous loss and they don't want you in? Hell to the no.

@MrsTiz: I'm with @anbanan15: I would stress the m/c issue...I honestly don't get why they wouldn't want to see you until 12 weeks (esp. if you don't know how far along you are!!!)

@MrsTiz: I think with a previous miscarriage they should see you earlier. Do they remember that you had one? I'm going in next Monday. My dr already put me on progesterone. Normally he doesn't see patients until 10-12 weeks, but in my case it was as early as we could schedule it. I would call back and insist on one.

I would demand to be seen earlier, especially with a previous miscarriage. Have they given a reason why they won't do before 12 weeks when you ask about things like the previous MC and the 12 week ultrasound screening?
