I haven't had a miscarriage, but they've brought me in between 7 and 8 weeks for both of mine for a dating ultrasound.

@bubblegum: There should definitely be a heartbeat and a tiny bean in there! Congrats again, mama.

@bubblegum: what the pp's said--they'll definitely be able to confirm by 7+3! at my OB's practice (in NYC) the first ultrasound is usually in week 8. not sure where you are, but I think waiting 12 weeks is pretty excessive in most parts of the US, although I've heard 12w is standard in other countries.

@bubblegum: hmm, I guess your practice is on the conservative side then? but their willingness to see you early this time is definitely due to your m/c history, which is as it should be. making someone wait 3 months for a simple ultrasound after they'd gone through a m/c would be kind of cruel, IMO. I had two m/c's before my current (successful) pregnancy, and for this one they brought me in for betas in weeks 4-5 and for the first ultrasound at 6.5 weeks, which they don't normally do.

Woohoo! So excited for you! Waiting until my 8 week appointment feels like forever...

@bubblegum: 8 week appointment is September 14 but who knows if they will do an US?

@bubblegum: WIth my first pregnancy, my first ultrasound was around the same time 7 weeks and 4 days

@bubblegum: well at that stage the baby is basically just a teeny bean. They had to do the ultrasound trans vaginally to actually see the baby at that point.
