I wouldn't, but I can totally understand the desire to do it. I believe in fate though so I would think that if I had boy after boy then it happened for a reason

You know, another thing I was just thinking about is that we freak out about gender selection in India and China where boys are preferred. This is really no different except that it seems that most parents are favoring girls in the Western world.

No, I could never do it. If it is in my plan to be a mother to only girls than that is what I will do. I would love to have one of each, but I wouldn't pay to make it happen.

If we were already doing IVF, and this would be an add-on, I might consider it. DH & I have always really wanted a girl, but we have discussed "balancing our family" with adoption if we have all boys biologically. I wouldn't go through IVF just to have a girl, but if for some reason we were already doing it, it wouldn't seem as bad to me?

I wouldn't go out of the way to pay for IVF, although I see the appeal to it if you have 3 girls already and want a boy, or vice versa. But if i was already having it, I don't see the big deal.
Also, it's kind of a tough territory because if you want a daughter you can share baking/sewing/girly stuff with...that doesn't necessarily mean that is what you will get from a daughter. And that could seriously backfire.

I'm not sure if I would do it, but I honestly don't really get the big deal. It's her body, her money, her family.
If your argument is against "playing god" then all IVF, fertility drugs, or even birth control could be argued against as well, right?

i've learned to never say never! i don't think i'd ever do it. but then i didn't think i'd ever do ivf.
however, what i would NOT do is consider abortion just because i was carrying another boy! that's nuts!

If I were already going through with the procedure, then I think I might look into it further. I wouldn't just do it.

@MamaMoose: YES! 100% agree with everything you said!
ETA: I meant "yes" to what mamamoose said. Not "yes" to gender selection!
