I always hear secondhand stories about women who got pregnant while EBF - did any of you bees get pregnant before your period returned while EBF? I love being a mother, but honestly i think i would cry for days if i got pregnant now (LO is 8 weeks). I want to go on the mini pill but I'm nervous about how it will affect my milk supply.

I think I would cry too. I got pregnant 8 mos pp with my DS. Now I have a 6 mos DD. I was so fearful that I'd get pregnant again while EBF but TMI, Aunt Flo returned yesterday.

I've read that it depends on how often you are nursing. If you are nursing every 3-4 hours, even during the night, ten it is unlikely that you will be ovulating. Once your LO starts sleeping 5-6 hours between feedings at night than it starts to get dangerous to rely on EBF as birth control.

My LO is 9 weeks, and I just started the mini pill a week and a half ago. So far, I've not had any supply issues. I was apprehensive at first, but like you, could not imagine getting pregnant again so soon!

Ecological breastfeeding is incredibly effective! You would need to ebf every 3-4 hours around the clock, no paci's, and keep baby close by ways of co-sleeping, co-bedding, &/or babywearing. It's around 97% effective the first 6 months & 94% from 6-12 months given your menstrual cycle hasn't returned.
We're at 8.5 months of ebf & my cycle hasn't returned BUT P has had a couple overnight stays with my mom so I know that it's no longer reliable.... maybe next time. =)

My OB warned that bf is not reliable birth control, especially if you are not open to possibly becoming pregnant again soon after birth. There are many reliable birth control options that won't affect your milk supply.

I got AF back at 9 months.
One of my closest friends got pregnant at 6 weeks PP while EBF. Her kids are a year and a week apart in age. They're great kids and super close like twins but she was totally surprised to find she was pregnant! -
@rachiecakes: this same thing happened to one of my friends. She had trouble getting pregnant the first time, so she was really surprised it happened so quickly.

It can happen but I think it's rare. I tried the mini pill but my milk supply dropped significantly. Now I'm just hoping for the best lol.

It happened to my Mom twice (even though none of us sttn until over 1 year of age) and a couple of my friends. My opinion is that trusting EBF as birth control is like playing pregnancy Russian roulette!

I have had no supply issues on the mini pill.
My period has also not come back yet, and I EBF.
