Just for curiosity sake, if you've gotten/are getting the vaccine, how did it go?
Which vaccine did you get?
Was it hard to get as far as making an appt./etc?
Any side effects?

Woot! So excited to have gotten vaccine #1 last Thursday.
- I got Pfizer.
- It was super easy for me, my dr's office sent a text letting me know I was eligible, called in and scheduled for the following week. 5 medical centers are using an old Younkers to administer which was also super easy, walk in, fill out 1 paper, get the vaccine, wait 15 minutes, done.
I did struggle getting my parent's appointments though! They dr. in a different town and I had to basically follow social media to see when there were some available. Dad got in at a 1-day clinic, mom got hers from Hy-Vee (local grocery store/pharmacy)
- No side effects from dose 1, just a sore arm.
- We have stuff planned for this summer (vacation / step-daughters grad party), but I can't wait for a girls night!

I just got my second vaccine (Pfizer) yesterday evening. So far I don't have any side effects but I haven't hit 24 hours yet, and that seems to be when most hit.
It wasn't too hard for me to get an appointment. I was eligible based on my job on March 15, and I was able to get my first appointment on March 21. However DH works in healthcare and knew when appointments were opening up, so I was able to get one right away. And they scheduled the second appointment at the first one, which was super handy.
After the first shot I did have a few body aches and a headache two days after but it quickly passed.
And now that I'm vaccinated (and DH is too) we're comfortable to go on our Disney vacation in four weeks! We were supposed to go last May and postponed.

Which vaccine did you get? Pfizer
Was it hard to get as far as making an appt./etc? It wasn’t too bad. My county is just having people register online, and then they work through the list of registrations in order (and by priority group). So I just had to register, which I did in late February, and then wait to be invited to make an appointment. That took about a month. I get my second shot tomorrow!! I had a harder time getting my dad his shots. That involved lots of refreshing on the CVS site, and then making an appointment 50 min away/driving him to both shots. Totally worth it, though!
Any side effects? My arm was a bit sore, but not bad. That was it. We’ll see how the second shot goes tomorrow.
1st thing you're looking forward to post-vaccine?! Spending time indoors with my extended family, who are all fully vaccinated now (parents, sister, BIL), going to an exercise class, getting a massage, eating in a restaurant...very excited about many things lol.

Happy people are getting it!!
I’m in Ontario Canada, stay at home mom and in my 30s. It will be months before I qualify, . My in laws got their first dose last week. My dad gets his first dose next week. My mom isn’t eligible yet either (she’s 58).
My husband is quite essential and hasn’t been offered either. Cannot wait for the roll out to pick up here.
I can’t wait to see family. We haven’t seen my in laws in months. And my nephew is 9 months old and we’ve met him once

@Mrs. Champagne: Ugh, me too in Ontario, working from home in my early 40s and just crossing my fingers they’ll get to us before July. While I get the reasons behind it (at least some of it) it’s so frustrating watching the rollout be so mishandled! My parents got theirs a few weeks ago, though, and I’m currently debating whether it’s safe to go visit them since we’re on March break.

-Pfizer
-not easy at that time because it was January and I had to STALK the sign up site, but now it is super easy.,.. my cousins got it in 5 minutes at Walgreens! It´s unbelievably accessible.
- absolutely not one side effect but a sore arm (which always surprises me that people mention that.... like... it's a shot, of course your arm is sore...?)
- looking forward to: working (seeing dozens of kids a day) and not worry I'm going to die! I feel safer at the gym and at restaurants. We have seen family and friends quite a bit (friends outdoors, family more lax). I was never in lockdown per se- I just wore a mask and went about my life (skiing, gym, restaurants, playgrounds, library, etc) but it's good to know I for the most part won't get sick!

@Mrs. Champagne: @erinbaderin: hello fellow Ontarians! I hope you guys and your families are safe and healthy considering we are in the worst stage of the pandemic somehow a year into this?!? What a total clusterf&$k.
I am a non-hospital healthcare worker so became eligible in March, received my first dose of Pfizer on March 23. We had to pre-register and then got an email with an appointment date. Seems like a lot of extra work for the people doing it, but I am endlessly grateful and feel very privileged and humble about it considering our rollout has been a disaster and we are facing a third wave that is the worst it’s ever been here. I had a sore arm for 2 days like a flu shot and some chills in my sleep the night I got it. Otherwise fine. My second dose is pre-scheduled for July since we are on a 4 month second dose schedule here in Canada due to limited supplies.
All I want is to see my parents. They are getting their first dose this week. I literally don’t care about anything else. I want to stay over at their house and eat and talk and have them absorb all the craziness and love of seeing my kids in person again.

Which vaccine did you get? Moderna dose one back in March, 2nd dose coming up next week.
Was it hard to get as far as making an appt./etc? Kind of? There were no appts near me but it was pretty easy to get an appt a 45 min drive away.
Any side effects? Sore arm, some lightheadedness and fatigue that was pretty short-lived. @pachamama: I normally don't think of a sore arm as a side-effect but the arm soreness I had this time was on a completely different scale than usual. Like deciding to sleep in my clothes because I couldn't get my shirt off.
1st thing you're looking forward to post-vaccine?! Mostly looking forward to less anxiety. But there are a few 'optional' things I haven't done all pandemic - massage, pedicure, etc. that I will do once I'm vaccinated and I'm feeling pretty excited about that.

I got my second dose of Moderna last Monday, so I'll be fully vaxxed next Monday--hooray!
It has not been too difficult to get a vaccine here. It was until early March, but then things really took off, and it's been "anyone 16+" for a couple weeks now. They're even walking around the mall (where they're having the big clinics) asking people if they want the shot.
Sore arm for shot 1. Shot 2, I spiked a 102.5 fever and felt icky about 24 hours post shot for about 8 hours, then was totally back to normal. Arm was far less sore for shot 2.
Haircut! That's probably about it for now, but still pretty exciting!

I had my first pfizer dose on April 7.
The dates kept changing for when I would be eligible but once it was close I just kept refreshing five different sites over the course of two days and was able to get back to back appointments for us. DH and I had to drive about 30 minutes away but that was no big deal.
Now that our state is open for ages 16 and up the appointments go within minutes at almost every location. I've been able to help a lot of my friends and family track them down but a lot of people are still unable to get them. Some of my friends who wanted it badly enough decided to drive 3+ hours to sites with less popularity.
No major side effects - I had a really sore (and now bruised) arm, a mild headache, and was just slight achy. DH had a sore arm and mild headache.
I'm just excited to see some of my friends and family in a more normal way.

I'm a teacher in Illinois.
I got the Moderna vaccine in March. I'm a few weeks out from my second dose.
It was *impossible* to get an appointment initially. My coworkers and I would get online for ages testing out different sites, appointment times, etc. I'd stay up until midnight to see if appointment slots would open. It was time consuming and frustrating. Luckily, the community hospital closest to my school randomly got a bunch of doses that they offered to the school district, so I was able to get the vaccine through my school. But it felt totally random. They called the school and offered appointments for up to 80 employees for the next day.
I felt fine after the first shot, except for a sore arm. For the second dose, I got *really* tired about 7 hours after the shot and slept on and off for the next 24 hours.
I was really looking forward to meeting friends at a restaurant and visiting with my parents and my kids in their house. I have been able to do both, which has been great. I'm still being fairly cautious because DH isn't fully vaccinated yet and I'm nervous about the new strains that affects kids more. I'm hoping we'll get better data soon about transmission and vaccinated people so that I can worry less.

I got my first dose of pfizer last week, I got my husband in for first dose of morderna today.
We are in Minnesota and didn't qualify for any of the early groups. Minnesota opened up to all adults at the end of March. It's been super crazy and hard to get appointments. It took several days and lots of time spent refreshing the websites. I was looking at several pharmacies within an hour.
I had a sore arm after the first dose. I anticipate the second one being worse.
We are excited to see family and friends again. We haven't seen friends at all and only some family, mostly outdoors.

I got my moderna shots in Jan/Feb. At that time I was lucky to get an appt as a 1B but now our county is giving next day appts if you call.
First shot I felt a bit nauseous and tired the next morning and had the sore arm, not bad. Second shot I spiked the fever with fatigue, chills and aches - worse at night for 36 hours then just sore arm.
I got a pedicure after I hit my 3 week wait which was amazing! Otherwise not much has changed, we still have a higher risk kid so we’re careful but I cried after the first shot as it felt like such a relief. DH is getting his second this week and that is such a relief too.

Some background - DH and I both were not in any of the initial groups offered the vaccine where we live in FL. I fully expected not to be vaccinated until late summer the way things were going. I ended up seeing an FB post from a friend-of-a-friend who was told by the pharmacy staff at a CVS in a small town outside where we live to spread the word they had a lot of vaccine doses available and were taking walk-ups of anyone who was interested. We took a chance and drove there the following day and were vaccinated very quickly - they were asking anyone who came into the store if they wanted to be vaccinated. We go back for our second doses this week!
Which vaccine did you get? Pfizer
Was it hard to get as far as making an appt./etc? It has been hard for most people that I have spoken with. FL seemed to keep a very tight restriction on eligibility for a long time until just recently opening up to everyone over 16.
Any side effects? Fairly sore arm but no other side effects after the first dose. Hoping for the same this week, but I kept my calendar for the day after pretty clear anticipating the possibility of needing a light workload.
1st thing you're looking forward to post-vaccine?! I have not seen my parents since summer 2019 due to her cancer treatment and then combining that with the pandemic. We rented a cabin for a small family "reunion" of sorts for July and I could cry thinking about how much I am looking forward to it.
The timing also allows me to start traveling for work (minimally) - my first trip is at the start of May and is quite critical to a big project I am working on so that timing is very convenient. We won't likely start doing much else differently except allowing our older daughter more in-person play time with her friends whose parents are also vaccinated.

I was in the 2nd eligibility group in VA due to health. In mid January the county I'm in sent out a registration link, and I got to set up an appointment in late February and got my first dose March 10th and the second April 1st (Pfizer). Scheduling was pretty simple but the process overall was a mess because my county was different from the rest of the state and no one knew how availability was being created and people in the first group definitely didn't get vaccinated before the second group opened. It seems to be better now but they're about to open it to the whole state so we'll see how it goes.
I had no side effects at all after the first shot, but the second one knocked me on my butt for a day. I had a fever, aches and a headache that could all be managed with meds. From shot to side effects was about 12 hours, and I was fine 24 hours after that.
First thing I'm looking forward to is getting a hair cut! But big picture, we're planning to have my parents come visit for Memorial Day weekend as a surprise for my daughter, who turns 8 the day after. We haven't seen them in 18 months so it'll be really great.

I got my 2nd Moderna shot today.
Was it hard to get as far as making an appt./etc? I qualified as a Food/Agriculture worker so I got my first sooner than most my age but it just opened up to everyone 16+.
Any side effects? First time around I had a temp of 99.8F two afternoons in a row and needed to lie down one of the days. Fingers crossed for this go round.
1st thing you're looking forward to post-vaccine? Spending a weekend at a friend's house at the end of May since we'll all be fully vaccinated by then.

I'd pretty much resigned myself to not having the chance to get a vaccine until the summer, but I was picking up a prescription for one of my kids a couple weeks ago...and the pharmacist said she had an extra dose of the J&J vaccine. They hadn't gotten through on the phone to anyone on their waitlist to come take it, so she offered it to me. I'd heard of people getting extra doses that way, but I didn't expect to luck into getting one that way...especially since my husband handles most of our errands (he was able to get the vaccine a couple months ago, and has done most of our shopping/outings since). I've never been more grateful for picking up antibiotics for my daughter! Right time, right place.
I was surprised by the side effects, since I'd heard they were milder than the two-dose shots and my husband didn't have many side effects from Pfizer. I ran a fever and felt pretty off for about 24-36 hours.
We're going to visit my parents for the first time in SUCH a long time this weekend, and I'm beyond grateful. My kids are so excited to see them again. My husband and I might grab lunch outside at a restaurant while we're there. We haven't been away from the kids for any length of time in well over a year, and it would be such a treat to get out while we have some help with the kids.

I got my first dose of the Pfizer vaccine on April 6.
It wasn't too difficult to make the appt. I live in NY and became eligible when anyone 30+ qualified. It took about 4 days of consistently checking for appts before I got one. I wanted to make sure I had an appt before they were open to anyone 16+ the following week.
My only side effect was a sore arm for half the day after I received it. A little nervous about dose number 2 since so many people seem to end up with fevers, etc.
I'm doing a frozen embryo transfer in early June and am so relieved that I will be fully vaccinated before then. I was worried I would become eligible in the summer and would have to make the decision of whether or not to get vaccinated while (hopefully!) pregnant.

Was it hard to get as far as making an appt./etc? Not terribly hard, you just have to time it right and log on when the next week's appointments are posted.
Any side effects? Nope (I've only had the 1st shot so far). I had a sore arm for a little over 24 hours
1st thing you're looking forward to post-vaccine?! Honestly, just not worrying about covid killing me.

Reading these is making me so excited! I signed up for my first dose of the Pfizer vaccine this morning (it just opened to 30+ in my state) and was lucky enough to get an appointment for Thursday. I was only able to get the appointment because I sat at my computer refreshing a web page over and over for almost 2 hours (although I did get appointments for both DH and me in that time). If I hadn’t been there to grab cancellations we would’ve been waiting a month or more.
Aside from the obvious—family & friends—once I’m vaccinated I’m going to get a haircut and a massage, go back to in person yoga class and spend way too much money on a really nice (outdoor) meal. Getting vaccinated will relieve so much stress around the logistics of what happens if one of us gets sick. No more need for back up plans or fears about being separated from our daughter such a relief!

I got Pfizer through work coupled with my being high risk (BMI and asthma) and will be at 2weeks+ this Thursday. I had a really sore arm and was super tired headachey but its also prime allergy season so who knows what was really a side effect. I am looking forward to going to the beach and getting together with friends not on zoom.

I got my first dose of Pfizer on Dec 18 through the hospital where I work. I didn’t know it at the time, but now I’m so grateful I had such easy access since I work in healthcare.
I had many colleagues have much stronger reactions to dose 2, so I took the day after off. Ended up not needing it.
Now that I’m pregnant, I’m so happy I got it a while back and have built a strong immunity.

I got my first moderna shot about 2 weeks ago!
I got it pretty unexpectedly. A local pharmacy was having a clinic and had extras. They opened up appointments online to any adults, but their site crashed because of increased traffic and I saw on facebook that they were accepting walk ins. I drove over and ended up getting mine and then my husband went and was able to as well! Since then availability has increased tremendously in my area but the first couple months of the year was terrible. I ended up helping our parents and some family members and friends who are older and simply couldn't navigate the system to get an appointment. Glad that it's gotten easier.
No side effects really from the first dose, just a sore arm.
About 2 weeks after my second dose is right around DH's bday. I want to make reservations for an outdoor dinner and surprise him with a double date with his (vaccinated) BFF and his wife, who we haven't seen in a really long time.

I got my second dose of Pfizer last week!
When I got my first dose, appointments were really hard to come by. I found out about mine through a vaccine finder FB group for the area which posted some large vaccination sites out in rural areas with availability. I drove about 40 miles to get mine. I still follow the fb group and it seems now that in rural areas and smaller cities appointments are easy to get, but are still very difficult in large cities like Austin where the group is based.
I had a headache after the second one, but no other effects. My husband said after his second one he felt like he had lyme disease again for about 12 hours, but bounced back quickly.
It's been a hard balance to figure out what is safe to do since the kids aren't vaccinated. We decided we were comfortable with the adults getting together with friends/eating together/etc under almost all conditions and then doing outdoor playdates if the kids came along. I'm curious as to what others have decided!

I just got my first dose (pfizer) this morning!
It was a massive site at a convention center run by the National Guard. Everything was running super smoothly, but definitely a different vibe than getting a flu shot at cvs. The only other time I ever go to the convention center is for the boston marathon expo, and honestly it had pretty much the same vibe. Lots of people who were really happy to finally be there just with branding for pfizer instead of adidas, lol...
It was not too hard to get the appointment, I just pre-registered on the state website and waited for them to contact me with an appointment. If you don't go through the state website, I think it is nearly impossible to get an appointment in urban areas, but easy enough if you are in a rural area...
We will see my parents in late May, which will be great. Haven't seen them in over a year...

Pfizer; getting 2nd dose next week!
It was hard as it very annoying, but kept refreshing, etc and eventually got through (this was a state site)
Didn't feel anything; though I also had my 1st PP period so if I was tired, etc I wouldn't know what it was from!
Just excited to see our families more! We will still wear mask and probably not eat together indoors as kids are not vaccinated.

@MountainBaby: “We decided we were comfortable with the adults getting together with friends/eating together/etc under almost all conditions and then doing outdoor playdates if the kids came along.” — this is pretty much how I feel! Like I’d be comfortable eating inside at a restaurant on a date night, but would not eat inside with our kids until they’re vaccinated or cases go down a lot more. We do eat outside at restaurants with the kids, or meet at playgrounds for play dates.

As previously mentioned, my province of Ontario is in the midst of a brutal third wave, and our vaccination rollout has been frustratingly slow.
As an educator I just became eligible yesterday to receive a vaccine and was able to secure an appointment for April 21 (second dose August 11). I believe I will be getting the Moderna.
I had to book my appointment through a provincial hotline and it only took about 5 minutes. I was expecting to be on hold for hours, so that was a pleasant surprise.
I don’t really plan to do anything differently post vaccine since so many people will still be unvaccinated for a long time, but I am feeling some relief knowing that I will have at least some protection. My husband is also an essential worker who is not yet eligible, so I hope he will be able to get a vaccine soon, too.

I thought I'd add a little more info on my experience. I went to one of our state run sites - it was a drive through site at the parking lot of one of the stadiums. It ran really well - I thought it was quite efficient. I got through the whole thing in probably about 30 minutes, start to finish. There were volunteers every where pointing you where to go - which lane to drive into, when to pull forward, etc. It was a bit eerie though, I felt like I was in a movie, and not actually living it.
My second dose is 4/28 and they moved that site to an indoor location (they're all moving indoors - its AZ so, hot!) so, we'll see how that goes.
I'll be happy once my mom and husband are vaccinated. My dad and sister are fully vaccinated already!!

I got my second dose of Pfizer about 3 weeks ago, my husband got it the day after me both times—we got lucky. I was in 1b (teacher) and DH was in 1c for health issues, but a friend of a friend was working the vaccine clinic at our local hospital and mentioned every day they have no shows for appointments, so they were taking walk ins on certain days at certain times for the leftovers. I went the very next day and didn’t know what to expect—had to hang around for an hour till the end of the shift and then me and about 20 other people got called in and got vaccinated. So I told DH to go the next day, but it was even easier for him—they took him immediately back and vaccinated him. He was done in about 15 minutes.
Anyway, neither of us had big reactions. DH basically only had some tiredness about 24 hours after. I had the slightest of slight fevers, like 99.5, and also had body aches, but we both worked all day and it wasn’t bad at all. I took 2 Aleve and felt basically fine after that.

@MLE81: Congrats! I’m so thrilled that they’re finally starting to do teachers.
@JennyLayneAZ: Another aspect of the total clusterf**k of the Canadian rollout is that because we don’t have the bulk quantities of doses like you have in the US (no Canadian manufacturing, everything is coming from somewhere else) they’ve pushed the second dose out to four months to try to get first doses in as many people as possible.

I got my doses of Pfizer back in Dec /Jan when my hospital was offering it to all staff.
My side effects were actually worse for the first dose! Some fever and chills overnight, then headache, muscle aches, and general malaise the next day. Not too bad.
I'm especially grateful that research is showing that some antibodies do pass through breastmilk so my baby might have some protection, but I wish I could have been vaccinated while pregnant, so I could have passed on even more robust immunity to him

@lindseykaye: yes! We live in FL and I saw a post on my local city FB that CVS was looking for people to give their shots to, 1 town over. The person who posted was the only appointment they had at CVS that day, just 1! They were asking for no paperwork, just sign up online.
So I signed DH up he had no issues and then 2 days later I went with my sister. Appointments are still easy to get even though it is avail to everyone 16yrs old and up now.
We got Pfizer. DH sore arm and tiredness. I had sore arm and headache after each shot. 2nd shot the sore arm was my whole arm radiating pain, not like a regular shot hurt. And some tenderness in my lymph nodes under my arm.
We are taking a road trip this summer. Still going to be socially distant as far as activities. But we get to see some family who is also fully vaccinated.

Just wanted to update in case anyone is still waiting for their turn -- my husband and I both got our second shots this week (Pfizer) and had basically zero side effects from either shot, other than a mildly sore arm. Hope everyone has an opportunity to be vaccinated ASAP!

Also can’t wait to travel to see my parents and extended family! They live in an area that is still a hot spot thanks to a crappy governor so we’re waiting until that improves since we’d be bringing kids with us, but I’ll be excited to go
