I went on the pill when I started getting my period every two weeks (though, that did in fact coincide with require birth control). I also had really bad, heavy periods with lots of cramps. I was on one pill or another for about 8 years before coming off in April. Since then it's been pretty regular, and lighter with much less in the way of cramps, so I am really happy. I was worried it would go back to being irregular.

I had really irregular periods even on BC, so when I got off it wasn't a shock that they weren't normal for about 3-4 months after. BUT once they regulated, they got pretty regular and long (32-35 day cycles) My AF symptoms are a little worse than when I was on BC, but not as bad as prior to BC. I was also on BC pretty young so it might be age that has balanced out AF.

I went off the pill after being on for 10 years and it did take my cycles a while to regulate. They went 33 days, 26 days, 29 days, 34 days, 34 days, then I got my BFP.

Mine were super heavy kind of random and I had the worst cramps ever before going on. I went on for about 7 years.

Coming off, I took the last active pill of my pack, got my period. It was normal. After that my cycles have been: 33, 34, 35, 35, 39, 32 days long. I spot sometimes. Cramps were HORRIBLE on my 2nd cycle off... but I've got that under control now.

@AprilK: I actually did get acupuncture 1-2x/month from right when I went off the pill.. they were still crazy. But who knows if they would've been crazier had I not gotten it.

I was on the pill 10 years and the only effect for me was a short cycle, which progressively got longer: 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 27. I did have a friend who had periods multiple times a month and just came off BC to have a normal cycle, albeit a bit short.
