My almost 4 month old has a cold and this AM woke up with her left eye sealed shut. I put a warm compress and the eye opened just fine. It isn't red or irritated so I assume this is just a blocked tear duct/cold of the eyes? I havent called the pediatrician yet as I'm observing her. She is very congested and does have a cold.
Anyone else experience this?

DD had goopy eyes and she had an eye infection so I would take your LO in to see the peds just to be sure. Hope she feels better soon!

If you are breastfeeding put some breast milk in the eye. It could be pinkeye....

I've stopped breastfeeding but still can get milk if I hand express. Maybe I will try this?

I've heard people swear by it! I mean, you may still need meds but it can't hurt.

In the mean time, just keep using a warm wash cloth to carefully wipe the eye. I also massaged the nose bridge a bit to loosen things up for her. I think hers went away within 24-48 hours and we never saw a dr.

Had this and it was pink eye caused by an ear infection (ultimately led to tubes being inserted). I'd at least call your ped and run the symptoms by them.

Yeah, I plan to call if not improved by this evening. My ped has walk in hours each day.

As an adult I get this allll the time..it's horrible when I'm sick. I have super moist and teary eyes as it is-let alone when I sneeze or yawn...then my tears just flow! And I wake up with one eyes sealed shut a lot....I think/thought is was totally normal. Annoying but normal

@TurtleDoves: thanks for this! Like I said the eye isn't red like its infected it's almost like her congestion has backed up into her eye like.

My LO had this and 3 days later it was double ear infections. I didn't know that her eye could be the sign of an ear infection.

this happened a lot with Wagon Jr. when he was slightly sick or congested, especially because his bottom lashes stuck up and into his eyeballs. I would just do a warm compress or wipe with warm water to get it open.

Thanks everyone! I called her pediatrician who said the sinuses will back up into the eyes. If she is still crusty/nasty tomorrow he will be seeing her at 7:15am. For now he said nasal saline and warm compress is the way to go!
