@Greentea: I mean just in the sense of fulfilling some socializing and sharing in a similar way. It was an aside, not related to the main topic, more to your comment about hating social media in general.

I agree with what some others mentioned about that usually the couples that are the least happy are the ones who post the mushiest stuff. Totally true on my fb... I tag DH in pictures of DD but I usually don't talk about him on there.
I also have quite a few people that constantly air all of their dirty laundry only to post how much they love their S.O. the next day...

No, I don't really question the lovey-dovey messages I see on FB. The few people I know who post things like that, really are that happy.
What REALLY weirds me out are the couples you thought were great together, and then they end up divorcing. I've known 4 couples like this in the past 4 years.
One was due to infidelity (which I would NEVER have imagined).
One was due to general dissatisfaction with life's direction (very surprised but looking back I understand now).
Two were completely out of the blue, the wife left the husband abruptly and severed all ties. It freaks me out.
