We rent a single family home. It's big. It's old. It's expensive.
We had a major sewage backup into the actual house over the weekend. There was no clogged toilet. Sewage started backing up and overflowing out of the toilet downstairs and shower when my husband was showering upstairs.
Plumber came. Two actually. On different days. To clear clogs, empty pipes, clear a backup that went out to the street. In addition, a cracked pipe in the basement spewed sewage everywhere requiring professional cleanup.
The plumber determined that in addition to having old pipes, some flushable feminine products (tampons), baby wipes (of which I have ever flushed maybe 20) and food matter (via garbage disposal) caused the plugged pipes.
Landlord wants us to pay plumber bills. Lease makes no mention of this. I"m a lawyer already wrote landlord a nasty letter.
Thoughts???
