Like moved out of the home you grew up in and downsized to a smaller home or sold their home and now rent?
My parents should but still live in the home I grew up in. My ILs have divorced and MIL moved to FL so she does now live in a smaller home.

My mom downsized, but didn't sell our family home. My brother and his family moved into it and built her a Granny Suite that attaches to their deck.
But it's a MUCH smaller place and required getting rid of a lot of stuff.

My parents downsized a year ago, after my father retired. They sold their home that we moved to when I was 13, moved back to the area of country we are from and purchased a condo. It makes visiting them a tight squeeze, but they are much happier without all that house, and I got a few things I've always loved from the bigger house!

Yep! Both!
My parents downsized about 3 years ago though it was sort of a combination of factors: my dad took a job in another city, so now they have 2 apartments (one in each city), but also at the exact same time my brother's family moved back to our hometown, so they bought my parents' house.
My mil is literally closing on an apt today that she is moving to, and just this week sold dh's childhood home. Fil passed away last winter so she def doesn't need the house (and especially all the maintenance/utility costs) now, though they'd been looking for a smaller place for a long time before he passed away as well.

My parents did 11 years ago they moved to a condo with lots of amenities that will make life easier as my mom gets older. The impetus for the move was my father's declining health, he has since passed away.
My ILs are likely NEVER going to leave their home. My MIL is in very poor health and wheelchair bound, they have installed a roll-in shower and wheelchair lift.

Yep, twice now! The first time I was living with them still (so was my sister); we had just lived too far away from everything, paying too much tax for school district and my dad was done dealing with yard stuff, etc.
Then they moved again to be closer to us when we had DD. My sister is still with them.

Yes. Both of our parents.
My parents still technically have a 4 bedroom house but 2 of the rooms are kinda flex rooms that they use as a Den/Formal living room and an office when visitors aren't there.

No, they kept expanding it for some reason. They bought their house close to 40 years ago and it was very small. I think they've expanded it at least 4 times now, including twice since I left (and once since my mom died, so it's actually only my dad and my brother now).
DH's parents divorced and when they bought separate places, his mom sized down but his dad sized up. No idea why.

Nope! They sold their 3 bedroom house that I grew up in and bought a 4000 sq ft home on the lake ...which we appreciate!

Several times, but I think where they currently live will be the one that sticks
They sold the big house I grew up in when my youngest brother was still in high school and moved to a condo--and quickly realized that it was too small.
Two years later they bought a nice townhouse that was a bit larger in a more rural town about 30 minutes away from the town I grew up in. They lived there for 8 years, but realized that it wouldn't work long-term. Plus their entire social circle was in the 1st town and they were sick of having to spend an hour in the car just to go have dinner with some friends.
A year ago the PERFECT house came on the market in our old neighborhood...it's backyard actually backs on to the house I grew up in! It's small without feeling cramped, all on one level (which will be good as they age), and has gorgeous outdoor space.
It took a bit, but I think they finally found the house they'll be in for the rest of their lives!!

Yes, my ILs bought our starter house that was our rental and are adding a master suite addition right now.
My parents are in the same house. For our area is is modestly sized at 2000 sq ft. They bought it 25 years ago.

Nope - my MIL actually upsized her home! My parents are in the same home they moved into when I was in high school and my MIL about doubled her square footage when she moved from CA to ME

My MIL complaints that her 2200 sqft home is too small, and it's just her there! She wants more rooms for decorations... Her 2 car garage is crammed full of seasonal decor boxes. We are trying to convince her to downsize.

Nope, they keep making improvement to the one they are in to entice all the grandkids to come visit.

Nope. Both sets of parents live in the houses we each grew up in. And no plans for either of them to move!

No, our parents are thinking about adding on. They never moved from their starter homes that they purchased years ago. I don't think they are looking to purchase a huge home, but maybe one with a larger master suite and an extra bedroom.

No, but they plan to sell our childhood home and move permanently to their shore home.

My MIL passed in her early sixties and my FIL passed in his early seventies so they never downsized. We my siblings and I tried to talk my parents into downsizing but unfortunately while they were waiting for a unit to be built in a retirement community my mother passed away. I had agreed to buy there home when they moved. My father has since asked if I could move in with him, so we are in the process of moving to my parents house . It is a large house 5 bedrooms , I would have the upstairs and the downstairs will stay the same.

Both my parents and my ILs sold the homes that I (and DH) grew up in, but haven't downsized. My parents bought an enormous house and ILs bought one about the same size as their old one. I think they are all picturing the house getting filled up with lots of grandkids.

My parents moved out of state when I was in college and still had kids at home. They just downsized and moved to a smaller place this month.

My parents divorced when I was ~26 & sold our family home then. My mom's considering downsizing from the 2 story she bought after that & getting a ranch-style home. ILs have tried selling their very large family home off & on for years & haven't been able. It needs lots of updating but they are busy traveling & grandparenting & love to entertain & host guests, so I don't see it happening any time soon.

My parents downsized recently. They'll move again before they are retired though.
My ILs downsized somewhat a while ago. They also have an apartment in the city and are considering just living there.
