I am 6 weeks pregnant and have had a horrible headache for almost a week straight. I've had 2 successful pregnancies and 3 first trimester miscarriages and the only other time this has happened to me was during one of those miscarriages. Right before that miscarriage, I had woke up one day to find the persistent headache gone and then I started bleeding later that day. I never had anything like that happen with my two successful pregnancies. I have an ultrasound on Monday (at 7 weeks) so I should have a better idea what is going on then but I'm just curious if anyone else was ever tipped off about a loss by a persistent headache (maybe due to dropping hormone levels?). I know that headaches can happen during early pregnancy but this one seems to be much more intense and persistent than I've experienced in the past.

I’m sorry ... loss is such a mind game. FWIW I think my headaches just got worse with each pregnancy and I don’t think it’s uncommon. So hopefully it’s just an annoyance. Hugs

I had really bad head aches with my successful pregnancies. So sorry you’ve had losses. I had two and it was so hard being pregnant again and not worrying. Do you have an ultrasound anytime soon?

I didn't have headaches prior to any of my losses, even the one where at 8 weeks I could tell my symptoms were getting less intense. Early pregnancy is so hard! Headaches could be a good sign of hormones increasing?

I don't mean to come across as overly dramatic. I honestly am fine with whatever happens (I'm lucky enough to have two amazing children already). Whatever happens, I just want the headache to go away!

While I hope your experience is different, I had two losses between two successful pregnancies and had severe headaches just before each loss. I have had head aches on and off most of my life. Both of these headaches were different and in hindsight, definitely related. I now get a headache right before I start my period, so also clearly hormonal. Again, I hope your experience is different. I get being paranoid, you can’t help it after having experienced a loss. I hope you get good news next week.

@Thenetexan: That's interesting. My headache lasted about a week before my natural miscarriage. My other two miscarriages were missed miscarriages and I didn't get the headaches but was generally more nauseous than my healthy pregnancies. For me, my healthier pregnancies have generally had less "pregnancy" symptoms so it is hard not to go to this place mentally when feeling so crappy.

@Shantuck: can only recall bad headaches (sinus type) in the first pregnancy, ended well 🤗this wait must be excruciating but sending lots of positive thoughts your way! We are also ttc 3 and it’s a whole different ball game this time logistically! Good luck xxx

I’m 15 weeks pregnant with twins and get a headache everyday. It’s pretty intense behind my left eye and lasts for hours. I have had 5 losses, and many of the things I experienced with my losses also happened during this pregnancy. FX for a good scan on Monday.

@crazydoglady: I did and we saw a heartbeat and everything looked normal. I guess every pregnancy really is different. The headaches are still there but haven't been as intense the last few days. Thanks for checking in!

I get headaches before my period that are definitely related to drop in hormones, used to get them on bcp too when I would start the placebo. But it didn't happen after my D&E/before loss, and I sometimes get headaches during a normal, healthy pregnancy too. I think hormones are just weird!
The main thing that helps me with pregnancy headaches is magnesium oil and lying on an acupressure mat. I'm sure actual acupuncture would be even better, but I just can't make it work with my schedule to go...

@Shantuck: Glad to see that everything is OK! I also have had pretty constant headaches through about week 10 with each pregnancy, successful or otherwise. My OB recommends excedrin tension headache (like excedrin migraine but without the ibuprofen) and it helped me if you feel like you need to take something.

@karenbme: I should try that. I feel mildly better after I have a cup of tea so maybe the caffeine coupled with pregnancy safe meds would help.

@periwinklebee: Epsom salt baths were my savior in late pregnancy so there is definitely something to the magnesium intake. I may try that. Thanks for the suggestion.
