I'm so glad you're okay. I had a friend on hospital bedrest from 18 weeks until 36 weeks when she delivered a healthy baby girl. I wish you luck and lost of entertainment from HB!!

I just saw this on your blog- I am so sorry you are going through this! I hope baby GG stays in there, and that you have a very uneventful (medical-wise) bed rest.

@Mrs Green Grass: No! I have been rooting for you and following your journey for well over a year now. I am glad at least that the medical people were able to keep you both safe; looking forward to your millions of HB posts that you will write now that you need the 'distractions'.

Thanks for the encouraging words and stories. Stats are one thing, but real stories are definitely another.

I'm on Magnesium to stop the contractions and unfortunately it's making me dizzy and foggy : (. So much harder to find fun things to do when your head isn't right. My contractions are down to 1 an hour which is good so we're just hanging out. It doesn't look like that I'll be able to leave before I deliver though.

Luckily I got switched to the room the nurses call the "Penthouse." I've got almost a full wall of windows, hardwood floors and a really big room. So that's nice...

@Mrs Green Grass: I'm so sorry you're going through this, but glad they are able to help you & the babe.

If you're looking for some easy reading, try Gillian Flynn- she writes these fantastic mysteries (I think 3 of them). I've read Gone Girl (which was my favorite) and just finished Dark Places. They can be a touch gruesome at times, but once I start I can't put them down!

Sending good thoughts your way! You've been through enough already, good grief.

I have 2 family members who have been on bedrest and in and out of the hospital for extended periods of time-

My SIL went into early labor with her twins at 24 weeks, they are now healthy bouncy boys, about to turn 2.

My cousin just finished up bedrest from 22 weeks, her little girl refuses to come out now! This is her second time around, her little boy had her on bedrest for her last 8 weeks of pregnancy.

Hang in there, hopefully you will be able to get off of the magnesium soon!

I had my baby boy 6weeks early and at 9 months he is happy, healhy and hitting all of his developmental milestones. The thought of an early birth is scary and disappointing but you can do it. Keep cooking.

@Mrs Green Grass: I'm so so sorry o hear this!!! I hope you and babe are ok and you get all of the rest and care that you need. As I think you know, I was hospitalized at 30 weeks for one week for preterm labor and was subsequently on bedrest for 7 weeks. I have a healthy 4 month old now. It is rough, but you are strong and can do it!!! HB was a huge distraction for me too. Please feel free to email me if you need anything or just
want to vent. I have good ideas for how to stay busy and distracted Stay well!

@winniebee: I knew you were on bedrest, but not that you were hospitalized for a week. What was the issue? How did they decide to let you go home?

My cervix is still closed and 3 cm, my water is intact, contractions got to 11 an hour yesterday morning, but now are less than 1 an hour. All vitals for me and baby are normal.

I never went on the magnesium but I had multiple shots to stop my contractions. Have they given you a steroid shot for the lungs? When I went into the hospital at 34 weeks I was told I couldn't leave because my water had broke and there was a high chance of infection so I had to stay until I delivered. I had a friend who spent about 3 months in the hospital on bed rest but that was due to having an incompetent cervix. Her baby was born at 32 weeks and he is now an amazing 3 year old. I had my LO at 34 weeks and he is now almost 4 months and completely healthy. While my LO was in the NICU I met a lot of moms who were in smilax situations. It's nice to have someone who understands what you are going through.

@Mrs Green Grass: glad that things have slowed for you!! It is nearly impossible but try to stay as relaxed a possible. I had contractions starting around 26w and thought they were BH contractions. They got to be every 7 mins and I had a positive fetal fibronectin test so was sent to the hospital where they determined I was dilated and effaced. My contractions at the hospital were every 5 mins the first night I was there and they thought there was a chance I would deliver. They gave me meds (can't recall name) to slow the contractions and also gave me a steroid injection (beta methazone) to help baby's lung development. The contractions slowed by the next day and they continued to give me steroid doses for baby's lungs. All in, I was there 5 days - they let me leave bc my dilation was stable, the lung shots took effect, and my contractions were less than every 15 mins. I was on strict bedrest at home (only allowed up to pee and could shower once a day) and left the house for docs appts only - 4 times in 7w. Complicating matters was that my boy was small - est 3 lb 2 oz at 30 weeks. So they wanted
him cooking as long as possible. In the end I delivered only 10 days early (one wk after they took me off rest). My son was still a peanut - 5 lb 5 oz but was perfectly healthy otherwise. I would love to say bedrest was easy - it wasn't. It was scary, and isolating, and at times depressing. But it was 100 percent worth it. Anyways that's my story. I'm so sorry you are going trough this - while I can't say I know exactyly how you feel, I have a small sense and can sympathize to a certain extent. I have a really good book recommendation for you - it's actually called bed rest ; ). I wish you all the best!!!!!

Sending lots of good thoughts to you and your baby. My sister had to go on bedrest at 23 weeks last year. My niece and nephew were born at 38 weeks. My nephew was very healthy, but my niece had respiratory problems and had to stay in the NICU for a little while. They're both very health and active now, and turning 1 in November.

I haven't done the steroids yet, but we will right before 24 weeks. They can only do steroids twice ever and it takes 2 days to really get the full effect so it's kind of tricky to decide when to take them. We decided 24 weeks was a stronger viability. 23 is really a gray area. (One of the worst conversations I've ever had to have.) But hopeful it's irrelevant.

I'm responding really well to the Mag - only a few contractions all day! So tomorrow they are going to try to go back to the oral meds. If they work, I can go home. (If my ultrasound is also good.) So I'll know a lot more in the next 28 hours.

I've emailed everyone at school and basically signed out for the year and I've gotten a ton of support and offers for help with lesson plans which is great.

I'm so sorry you're going through this! DH's cousin was in the same boat when her water broke and had to deliver early, also. The magnesium is SUCH a potent drug! I hope it continues to work and you have an uneventful and boring time at the hospital! Lots of books and movies for you!
