DD has been begging for a baby brother or sister for THREE years, lol. It took us two years to get here and we will be telling her at Christmas. We'll wrap a Big Sister t-shirt and book as a Christmas present and record her reaction.

We didn't make a big deal about it, just kind of told her casually. I think we didn't expect how thoroughly and immediately she would understand, or how excited she would get, so we didn't think about making it a big reveal. I definitely had second thoughts about how we told her, though, when she started chattering about how I couldn't pick her up because I had a baby in my belly - right in front of two of my friends who we hadn't told yet! Fortunately they didn't hear her.

@PawPrints: I figure once she knows I"ll never have to tell another person except for those friends who find out from Facebook, lol

we videoed DD1 and 2 and told them although DD1 is 4.5 and DD2 is newly 2, so she didn't know what was happening. i don't even remember how we told DD1 about DD2! she was also newly 2 at the time, so it wasn't a big thing.

We made a little scavenger hunt through our house and at each stop they collected a letter block from the word "BABY". When they got to the last stop there was a big brother shirt for my youngest and we tried to have DD (5) sound out the word, it was hilarious. She was like, "Ball! Bat! Banana!" ha. Once they finally got it they lost their minds and then proceeded to tell every human on the planet.

We waited to tell our two children (5 & 3) until we got the results back from the genetics testing and had the NT ultrasound. we knew they would want to tell everyone and we wanted to wait. I was 15w when we told them, and we told our families right after that.

DD was 4.5 years old and we gave her a big sister book and tshirt (which she never wore - insert eye roll! lol). We recorded it as well because we went through a lot to get this baby. 3 years of infertility, including IUIs and 3 rounds of IVF. So, yeah, we were a bit excited! and she was too

We told her the day before our 10-week appointment (when we would hear the heartbeat for the first time). We got her a shirt that said "Coolest Sister Ever" on it and she was so excited about her "stister shirt." She was newly two so she didn't really tell anyone about it, but we used that picture to announce once we heard the heartbeat.

@bushelandapeck: I can't imagine waiting for 15 weeks to tell everyone. We didn't even last the first week before we started telling a choice group of confidants, lol. I bet everyone was excited

@NorthStar: That's what I"m hoping for! If I know my kid, she'll wear the shit out of that shirt after Christmas. She'll probably wear it to school the first day back in January which will just about coincide with when the second trimester starts.

@Mrs. D: that is so sweet!
We just told him. I wasn’t able to pick him up from his very first day of preschool because my 8 week appointment ran late. He was worried when DH told him mommy was at the doctor so we just told him and showed him the ultrasound pic. I hid blue candies inside cupcakes to tell him and DH that it’s a boy.

We waited till 2nd trimester so he wouldn’t tell anyone before we were ready.
We just sat down together and asked if he’d like a baby brother and he said yeah so we told him there was one in my belly and he’d meet him in a few months. DH recorded and we got some really cute stuff he said on video. He kissed my belly and asked if he had a baby brother in his belly too. It was sweet.
