I have a five year old boy and just learned I'd be having another boy. I am delighted that he is healthy (the real purpose of the call was to tell me that we were in the clear for Trisomy/Downs), but I also was sure it was a girl and I do feel a bit sad, as I know we won't have a third. Anyone else?

I felt strange because I really, really wanted a girl (sisters, yay!) and I really, really wanted a boy (one of each, yay!). I knew we would be two and through so, basically, whichever sex it was I was going to feel sad that it wasn't the other!

With my first we found out at the birth. I was 100% sure she was a girl, and she was, so it was kind of a non event. The "I just had a baby" was much more overwhelming than the "it's a girl". If it had been a boy I would have been surprised and probably much more focused on it. With my second I found out at 11 weeks. I was pretty sure it was another girl, but it was a boy! I was surprised, and very happy because I knew my husband was hoping to have a boy since we are only have two kiddos. When I called and told him he totally cried a little. The big softie.

My first we found out at birth. I was sure it was a boy the whole time so when she was born a she, I was pretty surprised, but like @Truth Bombs: was more like "whoa we had a baby" than wow it's a girl. Then I suddenly realized that of course I wanted a girl deep down all along and couldn't believe I didn't know it.
With my second we found out at the anatomy scan. That was weird because for my older daughter I was hoping for a girl, because sisters. For my husband I was hoping for a boy. Then when we found out she was another girl I was really happy, but a bit disappointed for DH because he wanted a boy, and mad at DH for wanting a boy and making me feel disappointed for him. Before he even had a chance to say anything. Hormones! I'm happy to have two girls though!

@Cherrybee: I was the exact same way (only with two boys instead of two girls). My husband was like, doesn't that mean you should be happy either way? And I was, but there was definitely a sadness that I would never know the other life.

Happy, I wanted a girl. Found out at 34 weeks so it was kind of a trip.

I was happy both times! I found out I was having a second boy and was initially surprised because the pregnancy had been very different so I was convinced it was a girl, but didn't feel upset about it, I was super excited about BROTHERS
I could totally understand being disappointed though, I feel pretty lucky that I didn't have any gender disappointment... in fact, I was a little relieved it wasn't a girl! haha. we are only have two too.

With my first I was 100% sure it was a girl. We were team green, so we didn't find out until birth, and when my husband told me it was a boy I was surprised, but much more powerfully "holy cow there's a baby on my chest!".
We found out our second was a girl around 16 weeks, and I was in disbelief for weeks. She's the first girl to be born to my husband's family in 78 years, and I was so sure it was going to be another boy.
On the way to that scan I even told my husband that I was worried I would be disappointed when they said boy. He told me he would be disappointed if it was a boy because he thought a girl would be awesome and it would be another generation (maybe) before we got a girl in the family. But he'd also be disappointed if it was a girl because he has only brothers and was excited about our son having that brother relationship. Either way we were about to say goodbye to a life we wouldn't have...

When I found out with my first I was kind of disappointed. The picture in my head of our family was 2 girls, so having a boy kind of threw me. I'm not into boyish things and I was envious that my husband would get to share all sorts of his interests with our son, and I was afraid I wouldn't know how to connect with him. Of course I got over and was thrilled to have a boy when the time came.
For our 2nd, we found out we were having a girl and I was over the moon excited and surprised. Once we had a boy, I figured we'd probably end up with 2 boys. I was also fairly sure that based on Shettles we were having another boy. But to my amazement we're having a girl. I'm incredibly thrilled that we get to experience both genders, because this will be our last baby.
But as excited as I am for all the selfish reasons to have a girl (the clothes, accessories, getting matching stuff), I'm sad that DS won't know what it's like to have a brother. I know you can't guarantee closeness just based on gender, but I did love the thought of two little boys growing up to be best friends.

@bloved: Same. Two boys here and I'm thrilled my boys have a brother, but I'm definitely sad not to have a daughter. Hoping one of them gives me a fantastic daughter-in-law someday (in the far far future)!

I was so excited to find out R was a girl. After losing her, I was really afraid the next would be a boy and I'd be sad. I had been so happy to be expecting a girl. Thankfully L is a girl, so I didn't have to deal with being sad, and then feeling guilty for being sad.
I don't even know why I care. I really don't like enforced gender rolls etc, and I know she might not be girly like me at all. Heck, she could turn out to be a (trans) boy after all. But I was happy she was born a girl.

I felt so weird. I honestly, truly did not care what the sex was. Once we found out the sex I was just like "oh, okay! Now we can call her by name!". I felt bad that I wasn't like " OMG it's a girl!" I would have reacted the same either way.

I was happy, but it came out weirdly. I really wanted a girl but for some reason I thought I was having a boy, so when we found out she was a girl, I had to take a few moments to process it. DH said that I looked disappointed. In reality, I was excited but I had trouble in the moment.
@Foodnerd81: I think I am going to feel the same way once we have a second. I'd love another girl for me and LO but I also know that DH wants a son.

Since I had been thinking boy all along it wasn't really exciting to find out it was a boy. I'm still glad I chose to find out by myself because I didn't know how I would react.
For now I'd love the second one to be a boy too.

With #1 I was shocked because I just knew I was having a girl - had a boy
With #2 I was shocked because I was convinced it was a boy - had a girl

Sad with #1 because we were team green and the tech slipped, with #2 a little down because I was hoping for a boy but now I'm glad I have 2 girls!

I had such a strong feeling that LO was a boy that when I found out he was, I was not surprised. I think DH was thrilled though!

I was pretty thrilled. We were team green so I didn't find out until birth. I was primarily overwhelmed and deeply relieved to just have my baby out, but I had a girl preference and zero "feeling" going into it.

We did a gender reveal where balloons popped out of a box. I was certain I was having a girl. I had been having dreams of her, and I had always wanted a little girl. So when the box was opened and a million blue balloons flew out, my SIL caught me on camera saying oh shit.
, needless to say I was fairly sad for about a month or two. Now that he's here I can't imagine having had a girl(we're one and done). He's my sweet little boy...for now

I was like "oh okay" both times. I had a slight preference for a boy the second time since we basically have no boys in my family but two girls has been awesome!

Ecstatic all three times. I kind of always pictured myself with four girls. 75% of the way there.
I'd be totally thrilled with a boy too though. -
@Foodnerd81: @Cherrybee: same...for our second, I knew I would be both happy and sad either way since she was our last...I was thrilled DD had a sister (I have 3 sisters and they are my best friends) - but sad that I would never get to experience raising a son. I would have felt the same way if I had a boy though (thrilled to have one of each, sad to not have a second girl so DD could have a sister).

I was shocked because I was sure she was a boy and I was so happy because I've always wanted a daughter and so has DH.
@Cherrybee: I think I will feel this way next time. It's win-win because I would love LO to have a sister and I would also love to have one of each! But there will be a brief moment of mourning the alternative of whatever we end up with because I know we won't have more than two kids.

With my first, I absolutely knew he was a boy before it was confirmed and before I even tested positive on a pregnancy test. I was right and there was really no question about it for me. I think my DH was a tiny bit disappointed because he had a girl preference.
With our second we both really wanted a girl. I had absolutely no feeling about that time and I was also trying not to set myself up for gender disappointment, so I tried not to think about it. I couldn't even think about names for either sex until we found out. Luckily, our second was a girl. I was so surprised that I didn't believe the ultrasound tech at first.

I was hoping for a girl so I was really excited. I asked "are you sure??" about 5 times.

I really wanted to have a daughter, and with how sick I was my midwife said statistically it's probably a boy. Everyone told me I was carrying a basketball like a boy. So, by the time anatomy scan came around, I was slightly down. Of course, I was happy to even be pregnant. But, I wasn't excited to find out the sex. DH said, how will know. I told him, it'll be either a hamburger or you'll see a penis. So, when the tech was doing the scan, and we both immediately saw the girl parts, I said, "my son is missing his penis!" The tech said, "that's because you're having a GIRL!!" I was shocked.
For number two, we will be team green, and while I'd like to experience a boy, I'd be happy with two girls too.

We waited until birth to find out. I've always imagined myself as the mother of boys and I had been hoping for a boy all along so I was pretty happy to have my son!

I'll admit I was disappointed at first to find out with #1 that I was having a boy (I have 3 sisters and I'm a girl's girl) but the cliche became true that once that baby arrives, you wouldn't want it any other way. I will hopefully be finding out the gender of #2 in a couple weeks and I'm conflicted. Obviously, a girl would be fun but the lazy pregnant lady in me keeps thinking how much easier a second boy would be. We already have boy nursery decor, boy clothes, etc.

I was happy and sad at the same time. And I knew I would be. I don't know if we will have a second so the dream of boy vs girl is lost unless we have a second that happens to be a boy. But had my daughter been a son, it would be the opposite. Sorry for rambling lol

I really felt like DS was a boy, and he was. I really felt like DD was a girl, and she is. I had always pictured a boy first, so I was excited that was what was happening, although I didn't really have a preference either way. Since DS passed away when he was so young, I had a slight preference that our next was a girl so that people wouldn't replace DS with our next child. I am happy that people still recognize both of our children and that hasn't been an issue.
Now this time, I'm not sure what I want, I see positives either way! They will be 20 months apart, so I think having two girls close together could be awesome, but also having another boy would be so great, and I know DH wants another boy (even though he is over the moon smitten with DD). I have a feeling this one is a boy, so we will see if my predictions go 3 for 3

Absolutely overwhelmed with emotion - positive. She is a girl and I was really hoping that she would be but imagining that she was a boy.

Thrilled that my first was a girl!! Also happy the second was a boy (but also a little sad too bc I always envisioned myself with two daughters).
@Cherrybee: @bloved: I felt the exact same way!! Sad they wouldn't get to experience sisterhood, but at the same time happy that I get to experience one of each!

I really wanted a girl both times and felt that's what I was having, so I was excited when they were both girls. I would have had some shock and disappointment if it was a boy and I think that's completely normal. Especially if it's your last. I know if we have another and it's a girl I'll be disappointed about not having a boy. No one I know has ever loved their baby less because of gender disappointment.

I 100% thought we were having a boy, and I wanted a boy, so I was really shocked when she said girl! It took me about a week to get used the idea - it was really strange because the whole time before that I had pictured a baby boy inside, so it was like he died and was replaced with someone else I had to get to know. Now I'm so excited to meet her in a few weeks!

We are one and done so regardless of the sex of the baby it would be the only one we would experience so there was a small amount of mourning for the sex I miss out on.
I was super excited to learn I was having a boy; sad it wasn't having a girl. But if it would have been a girl, I would have been super excited to have a girl; sad to not have a boy.

It was bittersweet for me both times. Neither DH or I had a strong preference, but the loss of the possibility of life with the opposite gender got to me both times. In the end, I'm thrilled about having two girls and so is DH. I would have still been thrilled if we had two boys or one of each though.

@Jackiedavis87: Same for us. We are one and done and our one ended up being a little boy. I found out via Panorama at 10 or 11 weeks so we had a ton of time to get used to it. I thought it would probably be a boy for some reason so I was not surprised when I got the call. But DW and I (obviously!!!!) only know about girls so we were like, holy sh*t!!!! Now that DS is here though, we could not imagine anything more perfect.
