i'm not pregnant yet (or maybe i am?), but i'm already trying to think of cute ways to tell my parents (this will be our first). i already have a plan for my husband, but i'm not sure how i want to tell my parents and in-laws.
what did you do?

@chopsuey119: haha.. i'm sure that's how my husband would like to do it. i'm sentimental and ridiculous.

I told my parents over Skype. Our EDD is Jan. 8th so I told them that we weren't spending Christmas with them ....they started giving me a bit of a guilt trip and then I told them that we weren't traveling because I'll be 38 weeks pregnant. Not as dramatic or creative as most, but it worked for me.

It was like "Wait...You're pregnant....YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!" First grandchild level excitement. Eight weeks in and they are still just as excited.
I think that however you decide to do it grandparents to-be will be so stinking excited that they'll barely pay attention to anything other than the baby news. I could have written it in fireworks and gotten the same reaction.
Good luck to you in your TWW!

We just kind of blurted it out to our parents we decided to wait until 12 weeks to tell everyone else but we wanted/needed our parents' support. To tell my grandparents at 12 weeks before we made the public announcement I got a picture frame that holds 2 photos and put a picture of my and DH's feet next to a pair of baby bunny slippers (it was Easter weekend when we announced). I put a good profile picture of baby from our NT scan in the other part of the frame.

We waited to tell our parents until Christmas, and so we wrapped up little "grandma" gifts for our moms and had them open them. The reactions were fantastic!

i'm sure they'll be excited, but this will be the 6th grandkid for them, so this is old hat. it's my first, so i want to do something to get them super excited.

For our DD we bought bibs on etsy that said "I love grandma & grandpa lastname" for my parents & my in-laws & gave those to them.
For this baby on the way, we bought LO a shirt on etsy that says "A little birdie told me a secret..." & the back says "I'm going to be a BIG SISTER" & we also edited our 10 week u/s with Christmas things & said "I'll (hopefully) be home for Christmas" since we are due 12/23

Just blurted it out. I had a prior miscarriage and I had some early spotting this time around too so I needed my mommy.

I called both of them on the way to make a doctor's appointment. Very unoriginal and not special. I think this next time we get pregnant I"ll think of something fun and special.

We got everyone together on Easter and said we wanted to take a photo. Instead, my husband announced that I was pregnant and actually had the camera on video instead of taking a photo. Everyone stood there stunned for a minute grinning (thinking we were still taking a photo) before they started shrieking, the video is priceless.

Our fortune cookies arrived in the mail today actually! They say, "I see a new grandchild in your future. Arriving Feb 2013. Congratulations!" We are going to bring over Chinese take-out for dinner and have the cookies at the end of the meal!!!!! Can't wait!
The cookies arrived really fast. I ordered them on Monday and they showed up today (Thursday) with ground shipping. We got 50 cookies for $25 total. We cracked one open tonight to check it out!

We got each pair of parents a 'congratulations on your New grandchild' card and enjoyed their reactions as they opened the card in front of us.

we hosted a dinner for my dad's 60th birthday (it's a milestone birthday in the korean culture).... i made tshirts for my parents, the ILs and my lil bro... for one of my dad's gifts i wrapped the tshirts... and had him (along with my mom) open it last... they held the tshirts up for everyone to see (my dad's bro/sis) so they all screamed, before my parents actually realized what the tshirts said... and even then they first thought that i had made them "greatest gma/gpa" shirts just because everyone knew we were "ttc"... i have it all on video and i love every reaction!

resurrecting this old thread...
I'm in the same situation as @photojane: it will be the 6th grandchild for my parents, but our first. We're planning to tell them in person soon. How did you end up telling them @photojane?
Any other new stories?

@Willow: it wasn't terribly exciting! I wanted to plan something really fun for them, but I couldn't wait any longer. I told them like 3 days after I got my bfp. We already had plans to go to dinner, so I did it there. I printed out a bunch of cribs and nursery furniture that I liked. After we got settled in at our table I told my mom that I was looking at buying some new furniture, but I needed her opinion. I gave her the papers, and she looked through them. It took a second to sink in, but then she started crying and jumped up from the table! My dad didn't get it until I told him.

@photojane: Haha, it's been 10 days since my bfp and I'm pretty sure we're just going to end up telling them today
Awe that's cute
The reason we told them we're stopping by tonight is to get their opinion on some house projects- so actually something along those lines might be a good idea!

I found out dec 1 so we decided to wait until xmas to share the news. I got a cute gift box from Target for my mom, bro, & grandparents to open together. Inside was a balloon. They were like whaaaaaat? So we told them to pop it and inside was confetti and a little message that said "We're having a baby!"

I called my mom freaking out pretty much right away, and my dad and stepmom after our 8 wl ultrasound.
For D's patents I found a sweet poem from "baby", printed it out on nice paper, framed it, wrapped it, and put it under the tree for our family's Christmas Yankee Swap (I was 7ish wks). It worked out perfectly because my MIL ended up picking that gift, and still has the poem hanging up in their living room
