When it happens...I don't plan to. I feel like keeping it a secret from him--even for a day--is just not something I'd want to do. Then again, I'm the one who gives him his presents RIGHT WHEN THEY ARRIVE 'cause i can't wait until his b-day/Christmas. hah.
Parents...not sure yet. Nothing too sappy, as neither of our parents are sappy folks. I also haven't decided whether to tell my mom right away or wait until 2nd tri. I feel like I might just HAVE TO tell her about it, you know?

I had fun with this! I bought him a new polo shirt and then a cute t-shirt for baby. When I wrapped the polo, I put the baby shirt inside of it. I gave it to him the day I found out, and when he unwrapped it, he was confused about why I bought him a shirt. I asked him to try it on, and that's when he found the baby shirt. He was confused (love him!) and surprised though.

i would have loved to have surprised my husband. but because we were trying for so long, he was always around when i tested. but i remember the first time i ever got a positive last year, i screamed! and he rushed over and was definitely shocked.

Haven't done this yet, but my husband isn't really big on surprises, so I'll probably just tell him after I POAS. BUT I'd love some ideas for how to tell the parents! I really want to find a cute way to tell them!

@Adira - We got my mom and his parents together for breakfast one day and gave them each a gift. We said it was because they helped us move the weekend before. His dad had a pair of baby socks and a bib that said "I Love Grandpa," while his mom got a baby t-shirt that said "My Grandparents Think I'm Cute" and my mom had a onesie that had an elephant on it. His mom couldn't figure out why we'd get her a shirt so small, and my mom thought the onesie was just for her elephant collection. Only his dad figured it out right away. Even after his mom asked when we were due, my mom was still clueless. We bought the bib, onesies, etc at Target for $2-3 a piece, so it was a cheap and cute way to tell them.

@Maisymay - what a cute idea! I think getting them something as a way of telling them is so cute! I'm just not positive I could pull it off in a creative way that wouldn't give it away, haha! I guess it'll all depend on WHEN I get pregnant. If it's around a gift-giving holiday/birthday, I could get away with it easily, but they'll definitely know something's up if I give them presents at a totally random time, haha.

I read a cute way to tell the husband and I think I'm going to try to do it when I get pregnant. If I don't immediately blurt it out. It's really cute so I'm going to try to be patient.
I'm thinking of putting a hamburger, hot dog or a cinnamon bun in the oven and when he comes home, I'll ask him to check the oven for me. Hopefully, he'll look at it and ask, "Honey, why is there a bun in the oven?" hehe

@Bluestriped Bee - hahaha, I LOVE that! I'm not sure my husband would get it though if I did that, haha. He can be a little slow on the pickup sometimes. You'll have to tell us if you end up doing that and if you husband figured out what you were trying to say!
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@Adira- I don't think it worked immediately for the person I got it from either. I really hope he gets it.

I wish I had a fun/cute story, but I don't with either kids.
When I first found out I was pregnant with Claire, my husband was there as I took the test.
And with BebeDeux, I called him at work and blurted out, "I'm pregnant." He responded with a small pause, then a "But how?" and I told him, "Well you see, there are these things called penises and vaginas..."

I peed on a stick pretty much already knowing it was positive, took my morning shower, got changed and as I was ready to leave for work, I woke up my husband and shoved the pee stick in his face. He was surprised...Then rolled over and went back to sleep. Later that day I called him at work and asked if it had sunk in yet and he said, "No, not really but I do feel the sudden need to work a little harder today."

I took a test at 5:00 a.m. I half suspected I was pregnant (but was convinced I was pregnant in other months, and wasn't) and couldn't sleep and had to pee....so I took it..."pregnant" on digital test! I debated whether to wake my husband up right then or to do something cute....so I delayed going back into the bedroom and took some Iphone pics of the test just in case my husband wasn't a wak. Ultimately, I knew I couldn't wait any longer to tell him so I went back into the bedroom after 10 minutes. My husband was half asleep and asked "hey what's going on out there?" I turned on the bedside lamp and showed him the test. His response? "Good job!!" followed by "why so early!?" Neither one of us really went back to sleep : )

I was on the couch, told him I needed to tell him something. He immediately though I wanted to get a divorce. ha.
When I told him I was pregnant his first reaction was 'who's the daddy' because we only had sex 1x that month and that was THE one. haha
We laugh about it now.

I showed him the test strip and said you better look at this. He said what does that mean? I said it means what you think it means. He stared at it for a good minute and said, well that's a good thing! A really good thing!

I didn't do much the first time around (MC)... next time I would like to do something cute but I'm not sure I could wait to tell him.
GOLD / cantaloupe / 6703 posts
@MamaDreams - I'm the opposite. I put a lot of thought into making it cute the first time, but since we MC'd, I think I'll just tell him next time around. Mayber just dinner or something.

I took two pregnancy tests, snapped a picture with my phone, and texted it to him at work. Haha.

i always thought i would tell him in some grand, creative way. however, reality was that i walked out of the bathroom, stick in hand and said i was pregnant.
pomegranate / 3729 posts
He knew that I thought I was pregnant, and he was the one that told me to take a test that day. He was waiting outside the bathroom and didn't want me to look without him. Although, as it happens, I was for sure pregnant and two lines showed up before I could even set the thing down! He wants to be there every time and has said that he would be sad if I took a test without him.

The husband is a huge sports fan so I bought a baby bib for one of his favorite teams. When we get the BFP I'll give it to him. I'm still trying to figure out how I am actually going to give it to him (wrap it, hang it on a doorknob, leave it in the mailbox, etc.).
If we're successful this cycle we'll be able to share the news around Christmas so I'll try to come up with something creative for our parents.

I was going to leave the test in his bathroom to find, but I was so surprised that the positive result came up so fast that I just walked out of the bathroom and showed him.

I have two pretty funny stories...the first time was a silly bit of a mess since I wasn't sure what the very, VERY faint pink lines meant and hubs was like, 'well, why don't we wait a bit and try again' and I was so disappointed with his reaction.
The second pregnancy, I was out of town with my son, so I got him a "big brother" shirt from Gymboree and had him wear it on the airplane so his dad would see it as soon as we got home.
Both were memorable and funny to look back at.

Aww I wish I had a cool story! My husband I and were so anxious for a month to go by so we could find out whether we were pregnant or not. The morning of, I went to the bathroom, took the test, and then screamed "I'm pregnant!!!" I then ran to our bedroom and showed him the positive stick.

Haha. Same as some others. I was all prepared to come up with a cool way to tell him. And he had also mentioned that he wanted to be told in a cool way. But when it actually happened, I was so shocked b/c we had just started trying that I just walked over and showed him the pee stick. That ended up being cool enough!

I got my husband a daddy-to-be card in May when we first TTC hoping that I would get a BFP be able to give it to him on fathers day...that never happened so i just kept the card in my purse until this past weekend when i got my BFP. I wrote the due date on the card and left it in the bathroom. I then told him I wasn't feeling well and asked him to get me the dayquil from the bathroom. He groggily got up(it was 4AM) went to the bathroom, froze for a second and then yelled "really?!!"
it was soooo hard not to just blurt it out!

@LeeLee - Ohhhh, Super cute! I like that one. Maybe I can do something like that for next time!

Not pregnant yet but I bought 2 onesies from etsy. One says "Coming Soon" and the other says "Bad news...you can't buy a jeep. Good news...you get me!" My husband is a big jeep/offroading guy and always jokes about how that's gonna have to end when we have kids. I plan on putting them in the washing machine with a load of whites then asking him to help me out by changing the laundry over. I always make a really big deal about checking each piece of laundry to make sure if it's needs hung up to dry vs thrown in the dryer.
To tell our parents: my dad is a carpenter and builds all our furniture (tv stand, desk, book shelf, etc.) and plans on building all of our nursery furniture. I always have a "wish list" of things I'd like him to make for birthdays, Christmas, etc. so I've started searching for designs I like and will mix those pictures in with other things I'd like him to build then ask him to sit down and go over the pictures.
To tell his parents: We'll do it when his sister is around and her name is Bethany. We watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation every year at Christmas time so she's always getting Aunt Bethany jokes. We plan on making a coffee mug or something that says aunt bethany on it and giving it to her. Everyone "should" get it right away.

I had plans on fancy ways to tell him, like give him a special onesie I had picked out, or write him a cute note, but since we had been going through fertility treatments it wasn't much of a surprise. I secretly tested a few days before I had been planning to and was so shocked that it was positive that I just carried the test downstairs with me and blurted out "how do you feel about being a Daddy in May?" while I showed him the test. It was still pretty awesome!

@ Maiseymay - Thanks! I have my fingers crossed for you!
@Tequiero21 - Aww thanks! We are really excited and antsy! Our first appt isn't until the end of Nov, it feels like it will never get here!

Such cute stories! I'm awful at keeping secrets, so I wasn't able to hold it in once I got the BFP. I'd been charting, and that morning my temp went up instead of down, so I took a test. Then I just crawled back into bed with DH, shook him awake, handed him the test, and said "Happy Birthday Daddy" (it happened to be his birthday that day). Then we both went back to sleep.
I'll likely do the same next time, although I'll try to wait until we're both awake.

I asked him to stand outside and then told him to squint and then handed him the test and asked him if I was crazy or if he thought that was a line too. So not really anything special but I really was in a I'm crazy for thinking I'm pregnant even though there was an obvious line on the test.

Nothing special, I sprinted from the bathroom to him knocking everything over in the process. I was excited lol.

Nothing fun or special. DH would help check my BBT every morning and that day I was expecting a drop but it rose instead. I pretty much came out of the bathroom crying and at first he thought it was a negative. I think he yelled and laughed and hugged me, then looked at the test =)

Not pregnant yet, but I have a feeling I'll incorporate Philadelphia Phillies and Flyers baby items. I'm ALWAYS looking at sports items for babies.
Anyone remember the episode on Full House where Becky cooked dinner for Jesse and everything she made was "baby" related. Only thing I can remember right now was baby carrots, but I thought was such a cute idea. I'll probably incorporate that as well somehow.

ooh so many good ideas! any others? DH said that he wants me to surprise him in some way (I asked if he preferred me to POAS when he was here, he said, NO.). Starting to brainstorm! If we get pregnant this cycle, there's no way I can wait until Christmas, but I don't think there are any thanksgiving cards for new dads!
