When your friends got pregnant, whether you were pregnant, had kids, had losses or had no kids at the time, how did your relationship fare? Were you able to keep your same friendship? Did your friendship crumble? Did it get stronger?
How have your friendships fared as your FRIENDS got pregnant?

I've never had a relationship suffer from a friend's pregnancy. I've become less close with some friends since I had kids because I'm married and two kids in and I just don't have as much in common with my friends who are single and childless. I would say if anything I have become closer to friends as they get pregnant, more common ground and more little people to love on.

Most of them have been fine. I have had one relationship get a little tough when I had a miscarriage midway through my friend's pregnancy. She knew about it, and also that I had had a previous mc, but she still never stopped complaining to me about how hard pregnancy was. We work together so it was like every single day. My reaction was usually to say some snark about how much harder it would be once the baby actually arrived. I was meaner to her than I should have been, but it was hard not to be bitter. I think we're ok now that her baby is here and I'm pregnant again.

My friendships have definitely suffered when friends have had families. In the past, a significant friendship was almost lost because my friend had kids - the truth is, I stopped making plans with her because she was never available without the kids and they were noisy and disruptive; you'd leave her house after 3 hrs and realise you had barely had a conversation. My relationship with my BFF has definitely taken a knock too - and we both have kids! Its just that you're so busy seeing to your families and, when you do get together, you're too busy policing sharing dramas to actually talk. Its hard.

None of my friendships really suffered when my friends got pregnant, but I was fortunate- most of my friends and I were all having babies around the same time.
My pregnancy had more impacts on friends... My BFF and I struggled through my pregnancy and the first year. But we're solid now, better than ever.

@JennyD: I'm the same in that so many of my friends had kids around the same time. The ones that did before me, it was when I already had babies on the brain so I was extra happy to talk about pregnancy and babies with them (in hindsight probably more than they wanted to). And now with so many of us having kids it's nice that we are in the same boat, parties involve loud toddlers running around or working around weird kid schedules for get togethers. Plus now that I and several friends stay home we make mid week play dates. So most of them have improved.

Im twisting this question a little....I was one of the last to get married, waited 2 years to try for kids and then struggled with infertility for 2 years. I would say the relationships suffered due to the way I handled the stress of the infertility-- I'm a private person so looking back I pushed others away (didn't disclose the infertility) and now that I'm pregnant (yay!) while friends are supportive and are aware now...they all have 2 kids and are in a different stage of life. It sucks. I'm mourning the friendships for sure.
