I do whites, darks (blue jeans + enough dark stuff to make it up to a load) and everything else (including remaining dark items that dont run).

Baby clothes
My clothes (if there is a lot of laundry I will separate stuff that goes in the dryer and stuff that doesn't, otherwise it all goes in together)
Towels and sheets
Dishtowels, table cloths, cloth napkins

I do separate loads for: DH's jeans, his darks, his whites, one load for my clothes, towels, sheets, comforters alone.

DH laundry, my laundry, baby laundry, and sheets/towels/floor mats all gets washed on the "normal - light" setting, together, in cold water.

Cloth diapers are a Fluff Love routine.

I do it by weight and color:

whites (including towels)
Sheets and dh dress shirts etc
Jeans, pants, dark towels
All other colors (toddler and everyone)
Sometimes a delicate load but if I don't have enough I just throw them in with other stuff

If I don't really have enough for these loads I'll combine loads but I usually do laundry only once a week on the same day so it is pretty consistent.

I have a lot of hampers.

hubby's work clothes are always filthy so they're seperate
towels - hate mixing with clothes as fluff goes everywhere.

I do:

Whites
Bath linen/towels
Kitchen towels
Sheets
Girls' clothes (mostly lights/brights)
Adult clothes (mostly darks)

I tend to mesh bag my delicates (lingerie and thin, silky blouses or open knit sweaters) and put them with the girls' clothes.

I also bag anything with hooks, zippers, or velcro so it doesn't catch other things.

Clothes that are patterned, embroidered, or screen printed I try to turn inside out to minimize wear/fading.

I wash pretty much everything but sheets/towels on cold. The towels/sheets I do hot.

I do it by the wash temp usually.
Whites, towels bedding are hot
Basic colored clothes - tees, pj's are warm
Jeans, work clothes, other more delicate items are cold and never go in the dryer.
I will sometimes have separate cold washes based on colors too.

Super Dirty, then by person (easier to fold a load of just my clothes once than over multiple loads and also I can use a more delicate setting for all of my clothes vs DH who needs a pre-wash on his smelly man clothes), then towels and bedding together but separate from clothes.

Towels, sheets/bedding, toddler clothes, husband clothes (he gets pesticides and tons of outdoor debris), and my clothes. No separation of whites/colors.

Depends on how much laundry I have. If it's not a lot I'll just dump it all in together. Otherwise lights, darks, sometimes white if there's enough, occasionally a load of sweaters on delicate. And sheets.

Whites, Darks, nice workout clothes (lulu pants and similar material),and special (delicate type stuff). Then I further separate the delicate into light and dark.

I wash the kids stuff all together because it needs the extra rinse (super sensitive skin). And then I do towels and sheets separately as well. If I do one category per morning then it works out pretty nicely. But the worst was always the sorter so I love that thing linked above. You can carry the individual bag to the laundry room too.

@MrsBeluga: Hahaha to smelly man clothes! This reminds me, I wash our workout clothes (we usually only have them at home on the weekends) in a separate load with an extra rinse!

@charlotte: I've been wanting to get something like that but we don't really have room right now. But I'm tired of sorting, then getting halfway through the laundry and having to throw the rest back into the one hamper so I have to sort again tomorrow!
