All my life I've always said 4. There are so many barriers to that number now (mainly money and fertility), so I think I will have to let my dreams go.

I love kids. All of my jobs have been childcare: after school program director, daycare worker, camp counselor, teacher for 2nd, 5th, 7th, 8th, and 10th.

I also love big families. My dad was one of 9 and my mom was one of 5. I LOVE My big extended family and the solid relationships that almost all the adults have. Growing up, all I had was my brother and it took forever to develop a good relationship with him.

I completely envision 4 children but realistically we are probably going to stop at 2. I would love to have more but doubtful it will happen!

3-4. We have two now. We are actively not preventing so hopefully number 3 will be baking soon.

I guess I'm crazy, currently pregnant with number four. We are very much done after this one!

I'm the oddball out. I just want one. Every once in a while I get a wild hair up my ass and think I want another one but I think I like the idea of a second more than the reality.

I feel in my gut like we're a family with 4 kids, but who knows. I'm one of 5 and DH is one of 4. My dad is one of 10, and DH's mom is one of 6. I love big families, and I'm so close to my siblings. I'd love for my kids to grow up that way! We have two now, and I have no idea what's in the cards for us. I am definitely not ready to be done, and we've made decisions all along the way to try and facilitate a larger family. We always said 3-5, but now I find the idea of 5 overwhelming and worry that with 3, one would be left out.

I was the youngest of three and my husband is an only child. I've always wanted two, although I am one of those odd birds who really loved being pregnant, so I actually would possibly consider three. However, my husband would never go for it, so I think we'll be two and through. We'll see, though!

Just two. The idea of more is so overwhelming! And honestly, I want to be able to spend our extra money and fun adventures for the family and that is less and less realistic with more than two.

I voted 6 hahaha. If we had lots of money and I was physically strong and etc!!

I would like four or more though.. But after having been through miscarriages and seeing so many losses around me I'll take things one kid at a time. Soo thankful for my lil dude and the lil one in my womb!!

But I always wanted lots of children and minus the newborn stage and sleeplessness I feel like with my personality I could handle more. I'm ok w a mess here and there and tend to laugh when things go crazy (I taught first graders and loved it). In general my husband and I also enjoy simple things in life vs expensive vacations and luxury items so I feel like we would not mind spending what we had on more kids and not grow discontent.

I'm in the Bay Area and lots of ppl here make very good $$ at high tech companies (my husband has a diff line of work an I stay at home). I do see a trend towards 3+ kids moreso than when I was growing up even though it's also very common to just have one or two...

If money and infertility and whatever weren't an option, I'd like three or four. I'm cracking up over the two people who voted they would want zero kids!

If none of that mattered, 2. But since all of it matters, 1

I think we both deep down love the idea of 3, but right now are TTC for #2 with the plan of it being the last. Both DH & I are from 2 kid families, so that was the default...but I would love a big family as I missed that growing up (4.5yr age gap with me and my my older brother). We will just have to see how we feel after second LO is with us

@Ra: Nope, not the only oddball. I only want my one! At times I also really think I want a 2nd, and maybe we will, but I'm content with one.

Maaaaaybe one more, but I don't know. I don't have a longing for another baby, but maybe that would change in an ideal world (though it's not my reality so moot point!).

I voted 4, would maybe even want 5 if all those other things didn't come into play! But we're expecting #3 in a couple of weeks and I think we will probably be done after this - never say never, I guess, but I'm pretty sure.

I would have 4 if we had more money and a bigger home and only if I could be a SAHM. I grew up in a family of 4 and I loved it!

    @MrsBrewer: Eek!

4! We are NTNP right now for #2 and will TTC full-out in October/November. I'm thinking there will probably be a gap between 2 and 3, so I would like 3 and 4 to be close.

I've always wanted 2. I have 2 and am happy. Both my husband and I have always wanted this many. We've already discussed permanent measures to make sure we don't have more.

I would love 4 kids but that's not going to happen since we had IF issues in the beginning while TTC. It delayed our family plans by 5 years and lots of expenses. We're expecting #2 and will be done. Having 3-4 kids is very normal in my nonreligious circle of friends so it might be a regional thing. It doesn't seem like a lot to me at all, LOL.

IRL we are planning to be one and done but in a perfect world where I have an unlimited amount of money, I would have at least 6!

Unlimited money would allow us for me to stop working, get a bigger house and travel the world with our half dozen

@JoJoGirl: I feel the same as you. I don't know many people with 4# kids. I know a couple, but that's due to one family that had two sets of twins and one family where twins came second pregnancy and third pregnancy was an oops. But they all live in suburban Boston and are sahm. Most people I know have 2 kids for money reasons that live in Boston.

Just two and I am due with our second in 7 weeks. DH would probably love a third but we have agreed to stop at 2. I don't know anyone in our social circle with 4 or more kids!
