I'm just about 27 weeks (due in 3 months). I know pregnancy is 40 weeks, but I always have a hard time figuring out how many *months* along I am. Am I 7 months pregnant? 6 months pregnant? Why is this so confusing!?

My Dr told me the general rule for counting by months is to subtract 2 weeks from your week. I.e if your 22 weeks, 22-2 = 20 which is 5 months.

@winniebee: I always told people how many weeks I was.

It is so confusing! If you google the issue, you get a ton of different answers which all make sense but still differ. Lol it's quite amazing actually.
My thing is that I get annoyed when people think 1 month = 4 weeks. That's hardly the case. One month is usually about 4.5 weeks really. anyway, so this is why I'm in the camp that doesn't see pregnancy as "10 months"... It really is about 9 months.
Since you are due in 3 months, I say you are 6 months. Also 27 weeks divided by 4.5 weeks, equals 6 months.

@chopsuey119: I did that too! And then they would ask how many months that is lol.

according to my mayo clinic handbook, you are in your 7th month, which means you are 6 months.

@tequiero21: isn't that the best book? I was going to respond with the same answer. Mayo Clinic says you are in your 7th month in week 25. So, as of today, we're both in our 7th month, @winniebee

since you are due in 3 months and pregnancy is 9 months, you are currently 6 months pregnant. Thats how my simplified way of figuring it out. Usually when peopleask me how many months i respond in weeks and then they look real confused lol

52 weeks in the year, pregnancy is 39-40, so I go by a 13 week trimester. So 26 completed weeks = 6 months. I was 26 weeks on Thursday, and by simple date (25th August- 25th feb) I'll be six months tomorrow.

It's so confusing! I usually count the months backwards from my due date, so since I'm due June 22, as of Feb 22 I consider myself 5 months pregnant. Or I just tell people in weeks since I know that one.
I hate it when people say pregnancy is 10 months though. It makes my math-inclined brain hurt so much! There are 4.2 weeks in a month, not 4, and even though pregnancy is 40 weeks, you're not truly pregnant for the first two weeks. You'd have to carry to 44 weeks to have actually been pregnant for 10 months! And I'm pretty sure I don't know anyone who went further than 42

I agree that pregnancy is not 10 months!!! It's 9 and change. I have been saying I'm 6 months pregnant because I have 3 months to go. To people who have had kids, I say how many weeks I am, but if others ask and I say how many weeks I am, they give me a blank look - they want to know months!
I also get confused by the conflicting info re: what trimester I'm in. Though, I'm pretty sure that once 27 weeks you are considered in the third trimester by all accounts. (Uh, freaky!)

@mamabolt: Yeah i also get bohered by the whole 40 weeks equals 10 months, or when people say they are 10 months pregnant, I just have to bite my tongue and smile and tell myself to let it go. I dont why so many people are stuck on the idea that each calendar month has exactly 4 weeks

I say, as soon as I am one day into the 7th month, I am 7 months pregnant (so... technically after I've finished the whole 6 months, I jump ahead and say 7. no one else really cares, and it's way more fun that way for me).
So, I say you're just barely 7 months. I go by subtracting today from my due date. So, you have 2 months and 4 weeks to go (hahaha, those 2 days put you over the edge). So... from 2 months 4 weeks to go until 2 months 0 days to go, I'd say 7 months. At 1 month 4 weeks and a day, I will totally say 8 months.
When it's closer to my due date, I will just say my due date.

PS> My NP says I start 3rd tri at 28 weeks (all the books say between 26 w 5 days and 27 w 3 days, so whatever).
