LO has her 15-month checkup next week so just curious as to what we should expect. Did your pediatrician say your LO should have a certain number of words by 15 months? If so, what was the number? How many did your LO have?
Thanks!

Ds didn't have very many words then. Probably around ten consistently used and recognized? My memory is hazy. Our pedi didn't have us keep word lists but said just make sure his vocab is increasing overall from 12-15-18-24 months.
We have his two yr chk coming up and his words have infinitely grown since six months ago.

at 15 months, DD had at least 35 words. Both English and Korean, but mostly Korean.
DS had no more than 12.
I don't think my pediatricians asked about words.. They did mention that my kids wouldn't have as many since we were a bilingual family, but DD definitely had more than the norm.

At 15 months, he probably only had about 5 words. Our pediatrician didn't seem concerned at all.
His language exploded around 18 months. He had 20-30 words at his 18 month visit (which was at 19 months).

Between 6-12. The pedi didn't even ask. But I did bring it up, she said they like 5-10 besides Mama and Dada.

Our ped won't even talk language until 18 months. B is 16 months and has about 15 words but he doesn't use them consistently.

DD was really verbal at a young age, so I can't remember the exact count, but it's not really normal.
DS had about 5-6 words, and that was about the range that my ped was happy with. He really started imitating us and spitting out new words on a daily basis around 18 months, so I wouldn't worry too much until then!

She said uh oh, that's it.
Honestly, E had like 2 words at her 18 month appt and her ped still wasn't concerned!!!

She's almost 15 months and has 30 words. On our 15 month checklist though they look for 2 words.

@lawbee11: c isn't quite 15 months yet (this weds!) but she does not have many words. And so many I'm not even sure if I should count, like she said it for three days then stopped, or whatever. Consistently I guess it's four or five? It really will be fun when they start talking!

@Foodnerd81: M has around 15-20 words, but she still isn't walking so...

@lawbee11: ha- our most talkative friend (same age) is not even that close to walking but has so many words! I definitely think it's related.

Our doc's office said they wanted 3-5 at 15 months. (If that's any help...)

Ours didn't say anything about a word-count, just asked if she was making lots of sounds, but they just said "good good" when I said all she really says was hi, bye, dada, and mommy and a whole bunch of babble that sounds like it should be words. The ped seemed to care more about her trying out different sounds than actual words. Surprised at how many words most of your LOs had at that age! Her comprehension is great but speaking is still only maybe 10 words at 16.5 months. But she has walked since 10 months and has amazing balance - can go up and down staircases unaided now! So maybe that is true that they tend to focus on either verbal or mobile skills at one time.
@Mrs. Bee: Wow 100 words learned in a month, that must be a fun age!!

@fairy: the best age! couldn't keep track after that because it just took off.

LO 1 had less than 10 at 15 months.
LO 2 had about 15. Her single word vocabulary really expanded after 16 months.

@fairy: @Mrs. Bee: Yes! This past month has been incredible. Every day she's saying words I had no idea she knew.
@lawbee11: Sadie had about the same at 15 months... 15-20? At about 18 months she exploded. At almost 21 months, she's won't shut up.

Mine will be 15 months next week.
She has maybe 5 words?
Yes, no, dada, whatsthis, hi and uh-oh (if that even counts as a word).

I don't remember how many DS had, but I remember that was about the time he was learning and retaining one new word per week. His receptive language was amazing though, I felt like he understood everything at that point.

Apparently im not awake yet...i voted 16-20, but that is what he had at his 18 month appointment. At 15 it was 6-10. He had zero at his 12 month appointment.

She's a chatty one and had about 40-50 at 15 months. I stopped counting around 19/20 months when she hit 300 words.
It's crazy the way they all of a sudden pick up language.

He had said/imitated several words by 15 months but had no real, consistent words.

LO is 15 months and has about 7-8 words. The best is he started walking around singing "baby" and everyone started asking if I was pregnant. Maybe soon little guy.
pomegranate / 3565 posts
Maybe 3-4? I remember thinking he was on the slow side but whenever they asked me he always had the number they asked for. He got tubes around 17 months and he started saying more after.
