Hmmmm…..probably around $5,000 out of pocket total; even though I have pretty good prenatal/maternity coverage with my insurance. The pregnancy spanned 2 calendar insurance years so even though I hit my max both years, I ended up paying more than the “max” amount. Our portion for the delivery itself, LO’s hospital stay and tests, anesthesia, etc. was about $3k. I had to go to physical therapy and a prenatal chiropractor multiple times a week for the majority of my pregnancy, and at $30/co-pay a visit; that adds up to over $1500.

I didn’t have any co-pays with my OB for “well visits”, but did have a co-pay and extra bills to pay whenever they did blood work or an ultrasound.

According to my insurance paperwork, my maximum out of pocket for the year is $1500. Maternity is covered 100% after a $35 copay, and inpatient admission for maternity is covered at 90%. I got our most expensive plan because I knew I would be pregnant and delivering (got the BFP 3 days before open enrollment ended!). However, I have a feeling there will be some sneaky costs in there, but I really hope that 1500 is the max I pay?
I only had one visit in 2012 so luckily I didn't pay a lot towards my max and then change years.

We don't get insurance benefits through work so we have private insurance with a high deductible (Kaiser). All prenatal visits for me was a one time pay of $1500 which includes all blood work, testing, ultrasounds, monitoring, shots (I got the tdap and flu). Then, we paid $3000 copay for labor and delivery and was covered for the rest (close to $30,000!) I had a c-section and baby had some jaundice issues so we were in the hospital for almost a week.

LO's hospital bill came out to be $6000 and we paid around $500 while insurance covered the rest.

I think that I paid about $100 in prenatal care from my 8 week appointment to delivery with 3-4 ultrasounds, a UTI, and BV with multiple rechecks. My husband's insurance is awesome. For the labor, delivery, hospital time & care, it came to about $3,000 or so.

I just had this talk with my billing lady yesterday. As of right now, for the remaining OB visits, delivery, and post-partum visit it's going to cost me $460 plus my $500 deductible if I don't meet it prior to delivery. That amount has to be paid in full before I'm 20 weeks.

Sonograms, hospital stay, and epidurals are not included in the above amount and will be billed separately, but I pay 20% up until I reach my out of pocket which is $1,500. However, for sonograms, I just pay my $20 office co-pay each time I have one.

About $1500- about $500 prenatal, 20% of bloodwork, labs, ultrasounds. Labor costs were the same%, but over another an insurance year and was just under $1000 for the both of us- extra hospitalization for my son, circumcision, epidural, lab work, etc.

I only pay $5 copays for dr. visits so less than $100 for the entire pregnancy. There are no copays for visits with a PA or nurse. DH has good insurance because he works for the hospital but it changes in 2014.

I paid one $15 co-pay for the first visit; after that,. everything was included under my insurance universal billing. That included all the ultrasounds, Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist visits, a visit to Labor & Delivery for monitoring, an emergency c-section, and 5 days in the NICU for my LO. It was awesome.

That being said, my coverage has changed and we now have co-insurance... I have no idea what my next birth will cost

@runnerd: I think it's important to remember that you pay for insurance premiums, too! (I'm especially attuned to this, because I buy my insurance on the individual market, so I know exactly what I'm paying for insurance.)

A lot of the "nice" insurance plans are incredibly expensive*, and probably not a good deal (for a lot of people--if you've got cancer treatments/a long neonatal stay, etc, it may be a different story). You can't just look at copays/out-of-pocket costs when tallying the cost.

*Note that as an economic matter, even if your employer is paying some/all of your premiums, it's still coming out of your wages, so it's a cost to you.

I paid $15 for my first prenatal appointment. Every appointment after that was free. We owed a $400 copay to the hospital 30 days before our due date, so my pregnancy cost us $415.

I paid $10 at my first OB visit and everything else was covered.

I am in the UK so its free. I have had a couple of private scans because I wanted an OB to do them. They cost a couple of hundred pounds total.

I might hire a doula to assist with the birth and the going rate in London is around £1,000. So all in the birth would cost us under £1,500, but it could have been totally free.

All prescription medication is free as well.

$15 for a midwife consult before switching over completely to their practice from an OB. Thank God for our insurance. We would not be having a baby now if it weren't for this plan.

So far, at 36w, I've only paid for my prescrip prenatals. No copays or anything for any of my visits, including 7 ultrasounds and genetic counseling.

Our hospital stay has a $350 copay for the 4 days I'll be in for my csection. That should be the extent of it.

All my prenatal care is covered 100% so we just have to pay for delivery which is $300 deductible and then covered at 90% with a yearly cap at $3k.

I paid nothing to my OB. I paid $250 for the hospital stay (I think it cost $16k or something?).
