We have over $200K. but the majority is because DH inherited his Mom's investments. I would give it all back if he could have his Mom back.

@Adira: I know so sad. I never got to meet her but they were super close.

We have around $120-$150k right now. DH contributes the max, I don't contribute anything at the moment because I'm a contract employee. When I switched to full time I will probably contribute the max as well.

About 25k at my husband's current job, and probably as much from his previous job that I need to move over, or something. I'm so bad about dealing with these things!

@Smurfette: Awww, that's really so sad. And it's sad R will never get to meet her.

And thanks! Hubs and I are like crazy paranoid about having enough for retirement, so we max our 401ks AND have IRAs.

Mine's sad. We only have about $26k, and most of it is his. At my current employer, I don't contribute to a 401k, because I just don't make enough money and there's no match. I did at my previous employer, and it was 3% plus a match. He contributes 6%, I think...

Welllll I'm 23 and just got my first "real" job... soooo yeah... hahaha. Ask me again in 10-15 years

Not a whole lot, unfortunately. My husband keeps forgetting to get it set up (argh!) and I've been contributing for the last year. My company offers it after one year of employment, and they match 5%, so I put in the same amount they do.

@runnerd: my dad always stressed how important it was to save and ready yourself for the future. Thankfully DH and I both have good habits and good careers that allow us to do so.

I've been saving for 4 years, DH has been saving for 8 years; combined we have $200+

@runnerd: only a handful of our friends even have retirement accounts. (we are both in our early 30s, well i will be in a few weeks! :P)

About 1k DH has been at this job less than a year. We will up it once we get back on our feet again from buying a house.

I am 32 and have been saving since I was 19 (used to work in CS for a 401k fiduciary), and DH is 33 and has been saving since he was 22, so we're also well over $300K.

@runnerd: It really is scary how few people save for their retirement. I think working for that 401k company really opened my eyes at a young age and I jumped on that as quickly as I could!

I've been saving for two years and it is a fixed percentage, which means I only have about 4K. DH's is pathetic, honestly. His company doesn't contribute anything, and he only puts in like 2%, so he has about 9K for ten flipping years.

We plan to significantly up our contributions starting this fall. I'm glad we have *something *, because a lot of people do not save for retirement, but at this rate, we will not have nearly enough. I think we are going to start a Roth IRA in the fall since DH's is really doing nothing for us.

I have $25k in my 410(k) equivalent account and $5k in an old rollover IRA. I made peanuts at my first job and was out of the workforce for a few years after that while I was in law school, so I've only been able to really start putting money aside over the past 2.5 years (while still dealing with school loans). DH refuses to start a 403(b) because he doesn't like the idea of playing the market. It's a bone of contention between us because even though I kind of agree in principle, his view is totally unrealistic and impractical. He does put plenty of money in savings (well over $100k at this point) but I can't seem to convince him that it's not doing us any favors there. Hopefully I'll make headway at some point sooner rather than later...

Um, I just started my first job out of law school in January, and so have only had a 401K for 6months! So, ask me in a few years! I do put in 5%, and my employer matches. We are currently saving for our first home, so can't contribute the max right now.

It is hard to assess our numbers because I have aRoth type 401K and DH has both a pension and a 403b.

I have almost $40k in my 401k, about 2k in his 401k, 13k in my Roth, 8k in his roth, and 12-13k in a mutual fund.

@MamaMoose: Oh and do not get me going on the worthlessness of the options I have as a result, but that's beside the point!

I've Had mine for 5 years now (started at age 27?) and I contribute the max I think - it's about 1/6 of my total salary which seems like a lot! But I'll do it as long as I am able. As a teacher, we don't get any matching :(.
