we plan on spending about $50 per child. We have a 2 year old and 4 year old.

This year is about $250/kid once everything is said and done. That's only because we decided to get a big trampoline, otherwise it would have been significantly less. Trampoline is something we splurged on as a "thank you girls for handling our move & our temporary house, this will go in our new home" gift! ha

Gifts per child - $100
Stocking per child - $25
If we get them a larger joint gift that will be $150 in total...so another $75 per child.

I don't really have a number
They both get stocking stuffers
They both get a board game
They both get a few things they want

I spend between $100 to $150 per kid. I always aspire for it to be less. I just can't help myself. DH and I often skip gifting each other because I can't stay on budget

I have no clue We aren't really doing a big gift this year, so I'm trying to keep it reasonable (key word is "trying"). She is getting legos and a lego board, a rock project kit, a movie, a game, possibly a puzzle or two, and a few books. I'm trying to keep the stocking stuffers minimal too..

We'll probably spend close to $200 on DD but that will be for her stocking, Christmas gifts, and birthday gifts. Haven't decided how we'll be splitting the gifts up yet.
pomelo / 5573 posts
....a lot. Probably too much, considering that they're little, but I love Christmas and always end up going overboard. Probably about $300 each, plus stockings. I'm aware that it's ridiculous but my parents always spoiled us at Christmas and I like having piles of presents under the tree.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22276 posts
I think about $125 per kid then another $40 or so for stockings. Plus I'm doing 12 new books. I think this is the least amount we've spent.
honeydew / 7622 posts
This year around including stockings $200 since we got a play kitchen and accessories. Last year less than $100.
nectarine / 2973 posts
Last year we did $50 but she was only 2.5 and didn't "want" things like she does now... this year we will probably try to stay under $100 for her and around $25 for the baby.
pomelo / 5720 posts
We don't have a set amount but I would guess $200 or so each. It really depends on what they need/want.
nectarine / 2047 posts
Probably $150-200. We don't really buy much during the year for him
grapefruit / 4321 posts
Oh man. These numbers are making me feel like I should be ashamed of how much we're spending per kid
cantaloupe / 6923 posts
We don't set a budget for it. I just buy things I think they would want. And I make some gifts too. I'm sure as they get older we will have to put some sort of budget on it.
pomelo / 5621 posts
I've probably spent close to $150 on gifts and stocking. It is hard to know for sure since I have been buying things all through the year.
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
About $160-$170. I didn't set a budget beforehand. Since being finished with Christmas shopping in early October, DH has purchased two toys and a bunch of books that could have easily been saved for Christmas since LO is not developmentally ready for them. I may wrap those back up and put those under the tree too!
pineapple / 12793 posts
Maybe $200 each. I honestly don't know. Their birthday are all after the holidays so I'm shopping for that as well so it's a big expensive blur.
grapefruit / 4085 posts
I don't even know. M bday is 2 weeks before Xmas so it all comes at once. I want to get H some stuff but he has all his sister's old toys. Poor kid will be getting considerably less than his sister but he's 8 mo, so he won't know
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
I've been buying them a lot of clothes this fall so that's covered. They aren't playing with lot of their toys. So I'm not spending a lot. I got a couple of Usborn books for the two year old and some monster trucks. The oldest needed early reader books so we got those. We may buy one family activities pass.

I would guess around $150 for 4 year old and less than $50 for the baby? DD2 turns one this weekend, so she's getting her big present (a rocking deer) then. That was $50 or $60.
hostess / cantaloupe / 6486 posts
@Truth Bombs: no way! I'd love to spend more but 1) I never start early enough 2) we live in a small house and don't want that much crap 3) my mom can't control herself, so they're getting plenty haha. The bigger they get and the more expensive their wants, I'm sure my number will skyrocket!
pomegranate / 3895 posts
@Truth Bombs: Using our usual party line - I have a strict budget for my child's college savings, but when it comes to gifts and clothes things get a little fuzzy
We spend around $200, give or take a little. I usually buy one big gift (around $100) and then pepper in a mix of necessities and fun little stuff. The problem is I will finish Christmas shopping early and then my husband will go buy DS all this random stuff. It's super helpful.

I think last year I spent around $200? IDK, his birthday is fairly close to Christmas (it's actually today!) and I end up buying a lot of stuff all together. This year I'll spend less, maybe $100, just because he hasn't been super interested in toys. I hate spending money on stuff he's not going to get much use out of . And he'll get a lot of stuff from all of our families for birthday and Christmas.

@Truth Bombs: Part of the reason why I don't post the actual number is because there's always someone that's
I hate spend shaming.
nectarine / 2018 posts
@Truth Bombs: my number would be way higher if not for three sets of grandparents who are going all out for both her birthday and Christmas. They basically bought her entire wish list and then some.
clementine / 756 posts
My son's only 14 months and we're not big gift givers, so we'll probably just do a stocking. Especially because I know the grandparents will get him gifts.
After the election, I know I'm making a point to buy some books that feature minorities as main characters, not sure beyond that. Probably more mittens as we'll likely have lost a set or two by that point. I'd guess around $40

Lord knows her birthday is 7 days before Christmas so it is all a blurrrr
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
I spend a good amount. My problem is I'll buy throughout the year and then realize, "holy sh*t, I have so much stuff to give her..."
grapefruit / 4418 posts
Idk, but probably too much. I don't want to know lol. I can't help myself, at this time of year I go into a shopping frenzy and can't help but spend $ on all the things! Typically, we get DD one bigger gift (kitchen, dollhouse) and a handful of smaller things, and then a stocking. I also buy throughout the year a lot and save stuff for various random times and then everything I have forgotten about she gets on top of it. DH and I don't coordinate either, so he buys stuff he wants to give and I buy the practical stuff that will get the most use! I always said I wouldn't go overboard and every year I go overboard. We don't do gifts for anyone else really except kids, so that helps a bit.
pomegranate / 3314 posts
My limit for our 4 year old is $150. For my 18 month old, probably about $100.
persimmon / 1130 posts
I didn't plan to spend much, but DD loves to build and I decided I really wanted to get her magnatiles because I know she'll love them. Those are so expensive!
papaya / 10560 posts
We are doing a room redo for DD who is still in a crib and has her brothers old stuff. So for her it's like 500+. I've been saving all year for it. She won't get any other presents from us, but grandparents load both kids up!
I probably won't even do anything for DS because he'll get so much from Grandparents--just stocking
pomelo / 5084 posts
He's a year old so we didn't spend much this year. I'm sure that will change as he gets older and knows what's going on! Got him some stocking stuffers and his main gift is a radio flyer from grandma.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts
It's about $300 this year. Most of that is the cost of her kitchen. Her grandparents are all buying her accessories for that. It will vary year to year.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
I more so try to consider what he really wants, and price from there. I'm a big deal shopper too, so I can hopefully get more for less.
So far all I've bought for this year is a large Legos brick box for $40.
I guess we aim for around $100 but some years over and some under.
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
@looch: I told DH I participated in this thread and he said what you always say the $ doesn't matter the % of income does...now if we all did that would there be faces? LOL
Given that today my kid happily played with an unopened power bar for two hours straight I spent too much on Christmas gifts!
