I make like... 50% more? Not much but it was only three years ago and different industries!

I'm in healthcare admin and started with an entry level job to get my foot in the door. So my salary has more than doubled since my first job. It's good and bad... now that LO is here I'd love to cut back some or ideally be a sahm but we rely on my salary too much since DH works for the local government and makes peanuts.

In only 3 years I went up 16k when I took my new job in the same field.

I've been working for a year and just started at my second company. I make 18%more than last year!

I make 270% more now than I did my first real career type job. I'm a textbook classic example of the difference between not having a college degree and having one, plus work experience. I know that it doesn't work that way for everyone, but it worked for me!

My current salary has doubled from my starting salary. I am still very much making what some would consider entry-level, but my first professional job paid barely more than minimum wage and in the two years I was there, I got a $0.25 per hour raise. With my current job, I have received a raise every year. I feel very blessed.

@Mrs D: I'm with the govt, so I jumped a grade. Unfortunately, I'll max out in another year, but "maxing" out will still be 6 figures so I can't complain. Just don't know how much advancement comes from that once you make full grade.

My first job was with an arts nonprofit. I was paid peanuts and got a few small raises over the three years I worked there. Quit to go to law school full-time. My first job out of law school (with the gov't) paid a little more than twice what I'd been making when I left the nonprofit. Left that job when I moved cross-country for hubby's job and was very lucky to find another gov't job where they hired me at the next grade up. I started this job making a little under 3x what I made when i first started working. I just got bumped up another grade level, so I'm now making 3.35x what I made out of college, 9 years later (but only 6 of them spent working for pay).

@dc yoga bee: I'm confused, how are you almost maxed out if you've only been working less than a year? Or do you mean grade-wise? I think it takes 15 years to max out a grade unless you get special boosts related to performance, which might shave off 2-3 years. I.e. I started working at GS11, got my new job at GS12, jumped up to GS13 (full performance level for this position), but won't "max out" pay-wise for years because I started this grade at step 1. I didn't think there was any way to "beat the system," so to speak, but maybe I'm wrong!

My increase has been about 500% as well. This was over the course of 14 years. My biggest increases were in 2002-2007. Since then it's mostly been steady with minimal annual increases.

I'm in the insurance industry, accounting specifically. I'm not a CPA, but do have a bachelors and masters.

@dc yoga bee: that's amazing! Incredible that your firm can afford that!

40% more than when I started in the same field 12 years ago. It's the result of just 3-5% raises typical in govt defense contractors. I hardly call it a raise so much as just keeping up with inflation.

@PurplePeony: we don't do steps for legal here. It's like once you get GS-14- that's it. So I didn't go from step 1 to 2, I just jumped to the next grade if that makes sense!

Hahahaha. My salary has decreased by 15% since my first job! That's because I left a corporate job that was unrelated to my major/field of interest to take a job in my field of interest, which is journalism. I knew it was a big step down salary-wise, but I was OK with it at the time because we were financially comfortable as a couple and I wanted to do what I loved. However, circumstances have changed, SO's going back to school for an advanced degree, and now it's a struggle.

in 4 years of working, I more than doubled my salary. but then I went to grad school and my stipend is basically peanuts the sad thing is though that after at least 5, and probably more like 7, years of this phd, the positions I will most likely get--if I'm lucky because the academic job market absolutely sucks--will be around what I was making at my job that I left 3 years ago.

@Reese: mine either. My first job was to grow cells for a biotech company--- a far cry from my current profession

@SupernovaJ: Thanks! I think there's always a struggle, no matter what you choose. Luckily we should be able to scrape by while SO is in school and we are hopeful that once he's done he'll be making an even better salary than before. I got to do what I loved and he needs to go back to do what he loves. We are talking about how to fit an LO into things in the not-too-distant future, too. I hope you can figure out the balance!!

I've been working for six years and salary has increased 2.5x from my first job to this job (second).

I'm a consultant for a global HR firm, work with the B2B sales team solutioning and writing proposals for new business. First job was as a business analyst for an IT services company.
