I was never told an amount with either baby. I gained over 50lbs with DS and lost it all within 2 months - it just fell back off. I was super lucky. With this baby, I'd gained 15lbs as of 28 weeks. I imagine I'll gain a pound a week or so give or take a bit so probably 30ish?

I was told 10-15lbs because I was overweight to begin with which worked out for me because throughout the pregnancy I was loosing and didn't start gaining until the last few weeks so I wind up at my last appt the day before labor being 11lbs over my prepregnancy weight and at my 6 week checkup I was -19lbs my pregnancy weight but now at 10 weeks pp I have gained back 3 of those pounds so now I'm only -5lbs prepregnancy weight

25-30. I gained 22 with DS and hope to stay around 25 this time too.

@Weagle: For serious. I was okay with the restrictions with DD - I was super paranoid about gaining a lot of weight (no clue why) and liked the structure. I definitely cheated though. (I mean, seriously. How could you not?)

@swurlygurl: Both, actually. You can read more about it here if you are interested: http://www.gwdocs.com/midwifery-services/nutritional-guidelines. As @weagle alluded to, the MW diet is *quite* the controversy in these parts... lots of women choose not to see this practice because of the diet. Whatever. More space for me! (They also have an insane waitlist. Sigh. Only in DC is having a baby a competitive sport.)

@septca: what kind of diet? ETA: just saw your link.
My OB never said word 1 about weight, and I gained 55 pounds. A good amount was water, though, because I'm already down 25 at 2 weeks PP.

Both times I gained about 25 pounds. My first doctor never said anything, but my second really wanted me to gain more (and I did not start underweight, I'm 5 feet even with some extra padding). Every appointment that last month he was urging me to gain more weight, I tried, but stayed the same the last month. It has come off pretty easily, I have a lot of toning to do, but feel pretty close to where I started.

I started out overweight, so I was advised to gain no more than 30, and less than 25 ideally. I've had a lot of food aversion and lack of appetite throughout the pregnancy, plus I've worked out almost daily up until my 38th week, which has helped.
I was under 20 until week 38, and then gained 6 pounds in one week thanks to swelling. I'm sitting at 28 pounds now at 40weeks+5. I gained more in the last 3 weeks than I did my entire 2nd trimester! If I go to the hospital at +30 or less, I will be thrilled. Since I am likely to be induced, I know there will be fluid retention from IV stuff, but I don't think that counts.

My Dr said 15-20 since I was a little overweight to start. I gained 16.
