I have a friend who goes to the beach every year and stays in a rental house. Her parents go and her in-laws do too! They all vacation together, and she said they get along well. I could never imagine my parents and my in-laws vacationing together. They rarely see each other, which is probably good, since they are very different people and might get on each other's nerves. I'm curious to hear what the relationship is like for other people's parents and in-laws.

A few times a year, they get along pretty well, we use to all go out to dinner but hasn't really happened since kids. I don't see any vacations in the future but they get along great.

The first time they met was at our wedding almost 9 years ago (but they'd spoken on the phone quite a bit), and then the next time they saw each other was last summer. They live in different provinces.

Every time my ILs come to town we get together with my parents (who live a few mins away). They were friends before DH and I even got together! We spend Thanksgiving and Christmas all together and it is fantastic. I can definitely see us vacationing together when my Dds are older.

My parents see my FIL every time they come to visit us. He and my older SILs have been very welcoming to my family.
MIL last saw them when DD1 was born three years ago and our wedding before that. My parents have invited her to many dinners but she always declines. Whatever. -

My mom used to see my MIL all the time b/c we dropped DD off there. Now not so much... We did have joint Christmas/Thanksgiving together before, but now with so many people (kids, sister has bf, etc) we haven't really done it.

I think my situation probably has more to do with my in-laws, since my parents are open to spending more time with them. When my BIL got married last year, my in-laws had not met his bride's parents until the wedding day! And they only live two hours away, so it's not like they were on the other side of the country. I think my FIL feels like if he's not planning to see them regularly, then there's no point in trying to form a friendship.

fairly regularly. my dad lives in our city, and now that my fil has passed away, mil usually stays at his apt when she comes to visit bc my dad has an extra room, so they see each other like once a month/every 2 motnhs these days. but even before he lived here, they still saw each other often. my parents both came to fil's funeral, we've done thanksgiving all together. they consider each other family. actually, I think mil is closer to my parents than she is to a lot of other people--she's said she considers them siblings (she's an only child and doesn't have many friends or close family)

Only at or wedding. They live on different continents and don't have a common language. I can't really foresee them meeting again.

0-1 times a year during a holiday we host and often it's just two of the four since everyone is divorced.

It depends on whether or not the in-laws can be bothered to show for our lo's birthdays. We also invite them all for Christmas. So could be up to 3 times a year but in-laws have not been as interested in birthdays so probably just once or twice a year.

Maybe once a year when my parents came into town if we had time to make it happen. Now that DD is here, I imagine it will be 1-2 times per year on a regular basis due to them coming up more for holidays. The parents all get along well, it's more me not wanting to spend more time with my IL's than I need to.

It used to be a few times/year. We tried to do joint Mother's Days and Father's Days as well as kids' birthdays. Now it will likely just be DS2's first birthday party, and then never again. My mom doesn't get along with my in laws, and her treating them poorly ended up in a very large fight on Father's Day last year. I didn't speak with her for over 6 months, and our relationship is very strained now. I'll only have them together if I absolutely have to.
As an aside, I really wish they got along. I look at my other friends' parents and inlaws, and envy the close relationship. I hope to get along with my sons' future in laws some day!

I don't think they have seen each other since our wedding. My dad and my MIL overlapped once when our baby was born. They all get along super well, but it just hasn't happened yet.

Oh jeez all the time!!! My mom and MIL are off to Vegas next week. Then my mom/step dad and my ILs are all coming here for a visit the next weekend. The usually do Friday dinner together too! They live about 5 mins apart. DH and I live three hours from them.
We have vacationed all together quite a few times

Every few months, I guess. Sort of. My parents like to visit fairly often, and we'll occasionally invite my FIL over when they're here. He and MIL are divorced and she wouldn't be interested in socializing. But both our dads get along. I don't think MIL has seen my parents since our wedding. In general I don't care, but I was kind of annoyed that she couldn't bother to come for DS's last birthday party.

A few times a year! We do dinner and game night together when my parents are in town. And we're all going to the Dominican Republic in May together (us, my parents, my in-laws, my sister/BIL, my sister's in-laws, and my brother)!
Everyone gets along great!

@lamariniere: Same. And they've actually never met my MIL (hell, I've only met her once!), only my SIL. ILs won't travel here and unless we move to my husband's home country my parents won't be traveling there again.

Less than once a year, though my MIL and parents get along really well. Growing up, my grandmas saw each other at our house at least once or twice a month.

Never. They met at our wedding and haven't seen each other since. They are polar opposites and have nothing in common so it works out.
