@travellingbee: Ooh, how do you find out the percentages? My girls both have names that are outside of the top 500, so #150 seemed high to me!

I don't know any Violets, but I love the name! It's one I'm considering if we ever have a third girl (hypothetical second girl is already named) and we would call her Violet Avery.

I know 2. One is a teenager and one is 5. I don't think it's that common.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: on the social security website when you search the top names for a birth year you can also have it show you how many babies were given that name.

Don't know any! But I don't know many young children/babies, so if it's just now getting popular, I'm probably not a good source.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: I have come across 1 Violet before... which says a lot. I'm a teacher and I come across a lot of different names all the time.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: On the ssa website you can also search the most popular names in your state, and it tells you how many babies had that name. So for example in my state, Maya was the #100 name in 2013 but it was given to only 84 girls. Violet was the 87th most popular name but was only given to 97 girls.

I know a kindergartener and a baby named Violet but it's definitely still on my list If this baby is a girl. I work with kids so I know one named just about every name. Both Violets are lovely!

The only Violet I know is from Willy Wonka.
I think it is one of those names that seem so popular on here, but IRL isn't nearly as popular.
