Hello ladies. My father passed away 11 months ago and my mother is still having a hard time dealing with it. I just found out I'm pregnant this week and I'm trying to think of a cute and special way to announce to her that she's going to be a grandmother. Does anybody have any ideas?

Do you want to include your father in some way? Maybe you could tell your mom you put together a photo book of really great family photos and look at it together. Then have the last page be an ultrasound picture and have a subtitle that says "Smith Family (or whatever your last name is) Newest Addition, Coming April 2016".

Does your mom have any hobbies or interests that you could incorporate in the announcement? If she likes to cook or bake or work in the garden get some children's sized tools for that and tell her she will have a little helper soon? Or if she likes to read find a cute kid book about grandmas?

I just told my dad on Father Day. (My mom died a few years ago, and this is the first grandbaby, so I also wanted to make it special for him.) My dad's a coffee drinker, so I bought a nice mug at Target and used Sharpie paint pens to write "Pappap Joe est. 2016" on it. It took him a minute to figure out, but then he started crying! I'm pretty crafty, but if you didn't want to deal with making it yourself, they sell similar stuff on etsy.

Take her out to lunch and order dessert. Have the restaurant write in chocolate hello grandma or grandma to be.

Nothing creative to add, just had to say I love all of these ideas! @turquoisemama: Your idea made me get a bit teary eyed just thinking of it! I'm a picture person so that is probably the one I would go with!

@turquoisemama: Oops, should have clarified - definitely not pregnant and am probably done having babies (90% sure), but I just really liked your idea and thought it would be great to do in the OP's situation!

I made my mom and MIL quilts and on the label on the back put "great moms get promoted to grandmas" and "Baby M due Summer 2015". They both starting crying when they read the label.
