I was simmering something, and I put the stove onto the lowest setting. It's so low that you can barely even see any flame. What I didn't notice was that the gas wasn't lit! When I came upstairs three hours later, the entire second floor smelled of gas. Charlie and Olive's rooms are on the second floor!
I was freaking out and opened all the doors and windows, but I didn't want to wake Charlie and Olive. Their rooms had doors closed with draft dodgers under the door, and their rooms didn't smell like gas. I turned on a fan in front of their rooms to circulate the air.
I was so worried that I couldn't sleep last night because I was watching them both on the video monitor to make sure they were breathing. I finally closed all the windows at 3am (opened them around midnight) and went to sleep.
Moral of the story -- never leave the stove unattended!!!!!
