I was not even thinking, and really, who even licks it anymore? But I did and then immediately realized what I had done and spat into the garbage can and then rinsed my mouth out with water about five times. Visions of envelop glue affecting my baby now dance thru my head!
Reassurance....please?

If its just one envelope than thats fine, unlike when you lick a whole stack for wedding invites or such

@Jumpingjacks: One time last year at work I had to send notices to ~80 people and licked. every. damn. envelope. Later, the secretary was like "you know we have a machine that seals those, right?" Ugh why did you just sit there and watch me lick all these envelopes! My mouth tasted like envelope glue for days. DAYS.

Ugh, awful flashbacks... I had the genius idea to do old, vintage-y stamps for our save the dates and invites (for our wedding)... Each envelope had a minimum of 4 stamps on it, plus all of the envelopes that had to be licked. Blah.

Never even heard of avoiding envelope glue during pregnancy. I licked about a million while I was pregnant and my baby turned out just fine.

I, too, have ELWP. (Envelope Licked While Pregnant.) It doesn't taste good, but as long as you didn't Costanza on the envelopes (buy the cheapest ones you can find, from a third world country), you should be fine.

I always think of Seinfeld when licking envelopes, too. I mostly don't do it unless I am feeling really lazy or else I use a glue stick.

but I had NEVER heard about the rule you shouldn't lick envelopes while pregnant. Hm. For my wedding invites I used a paintbrush and water lol

I'm sure you won't hurt anyone by licking some envelopes. But I agree, envelope glue tastes icky.
