@Mrs squirreld: isn't the amount of blood they take on that first appointment amazing? My DH asked me what they checked for with the gallon they took and I had to look it up lol. All mine came back normal.

How cool that your doc has an ultrasound machine in office! So glad to hear everything went well.

Our appointment went great! The ultrasound tech was a little lacking in bedside manner. She kept on correcting me for not using the correct technical terms for things. I was soooo uncomfortable from the amount of water I had to drink. 32 oz in fifteen minutes, to be done an hour before the appointment. That would make me want to puke even if I wasn't pregnant!

But the scan went great. We got to see the profile, baby looking right at us, spine, and at one point he/she raised their arm and we could see five fingers! Heart rate was at 150. We used one of the pics to announce on Facebook, so now everyone knows :). We spent longer waiting for the doctor that my actual 'exam' with her went, and then more blood taken as part of the nt scan.

I'll post a pic of the ultrasound just as soon as I get a chance to edit my name off of it :).

@strawberrybee: @chibee: @cherrybee: @mrs squirreld: @runnerd: @.twist.: @jennimac: Time for a check in of all former posters! Now that many of us are pregnant, this board has lost its common conversations. Where is everyone at? What is everyone up to?

AFM, I'm in the middle of 7 weeks, and have another ultrasound on February 20th, a thyroid recheck on the 26th and my first OB appointment on March 4th. I've been buying lots of baby stuff when it's on sale lately (stroller, ergo, my brest friend, and medela breastfeeding items) to keep me occupied in this early, "don't really feel pregnant" time.

Currently feeding a liquid diet via feeding tube to my cat. Feedings every 4 hours including through the night; I had to laugh a little at that! Getting some practice in. He's doing a lot better; hopefully his next blood draw will continue to show improvement. (He stopped eating two weeks ago due to ibs and his liver started failing when it tried to process too much stored fat).

My nausea has cleared out for the day and I really hope that continues. Crazy busy at work. Actually got the house semi cleaned up before the notary arrived to finalize my mortgage refi....woohoo! Two months with no mortgage payment, money back at the table, and a savings of $340 a month over what we were paying before.

Anyway, time to flush out a feeding tube and pet a purring cat.

@StrawberryBee: That's great about your refi! We're looking at buying a home in the next few months. There are such great rates. I'm sorry your cat isn't doing well...but you're right...it's great baby practice. I hope she gets to feeling better soon.

@Jennimac: Aaaw, I'm so sorry. Have the doctors taken any interest and indicated what might be causing the delay? Of everyone on here, you're the person I'd most like to see have some happiness in this department, it's just so unfair that it's taking so long.

@StrawberryBee: I'm so sorry about your cat. I hope he makes a good recovery. Awesome ultrasound pic! Do you want me to make a gender guess?? I have a strong feeling about this one.... Are you going to find out or are you team green?? Glad to hear the sickness has eased up.

@marionberry: Woah! 7 weeks already? I feel like that's flown by! Do you have much sickness?

I'm 14+3 now and I've got a right bump going on!! At the rate I'm going I'm going to be huge!! In other news - I'm so sick right now! I've got Norovirus (a tummy bug, basically). I've just spent an entire 24 hrs in bed - except for the time I was in the bathroom. It's horrible!!!

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@Cherrybee: Ugh I can't imaging having norovirus with pregnancy. You poor thing! Embrace the baby belly. It's all part of the experience, lol. I'll probably have a big one too. No sickness for me really, just feeling nauseous here and there.

@marionberry: thanks! Just came up to the room and he managed to get his e collar around his middle. No idea how he managed that! We went from 6.25 to 3.75%; amazing.

@Cherrybee: ooh, guess away! Definitely no green here :). How awful about the noro; feel better soon!

@StrawberryBee: Okay!! I think it's a boy!! I think mine is a girl... we will have to see if I'm right in a few weeks - I'm finding out 14th March, how about you?

@Cherrybee: thanks! ^_^ don't know yet, it hasn't been scheduled. Middle of march feels so far away! My next appointment is the 20th. And aww, lookit your peanut!

@marionberry: @StrawberryBee: @Cherrybee: there isn't much right now to do. My doc is a family friend so he gives me special treatment, but our problem isn't getting pregnant (maybe now it is?!?) or even staying pregnant in the early part because we got to 20 weeks. We just had a crappy situation. If we get to June, then I'll talk with him. That's when we started trying after we lost our daughter. Part of our problem is DH works out of town. Some months he may not be here at the right time. I would like to lose about 20 lbs, so maybe that will help. I know it will happen when it's right for us. Im glad things are working out for y'all, though! Happy and healthy 9 months!

@Cherrybee: I agree with you on both sexes. I happened to google that today actually and read about nub angles lol.

    nectarine / 2530 posts

@marionberry: @Cherrybee: please understand that I love you both, but drat, I was really hoping for a girl lol. I know that I will love a boy just as much as a girl and of course will be lucky just to have a healthy baby (#1 priority!!).

On the flip side, I have so much blue/green stuff, AND a boy name picked out

  19. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@Jennimac: I had wanted to lose about 15lbs before getting pregnant. Oops lol. I hope you get a BFP before April. but if not, I think it will be good to work with your doctor and find a solution. Have you ever considered going earlier to see an RE? They seem to know so much and be able to get people pregnant (like me lol).

@Strawberrybee: Given my iui they say it's much more likely I'll have a boy, and I would kill for a girl too...although like you, I just want a healthy baby. So I know how you feel. Plus Cherrybee and I are not ultrasound techs so don't put too much into our thoughts. When we were buying clothes that were gender neutral, they always came out of the boy section, so you're right, in that area I have a lot of boy stuff too.

  20. StrawberryBee

    nectarine / 2530 posts

@marionberry: actually, I do appreciate it, even if strawberry baby does turn out a girl. It's not a bad idea to get my mind used to the idea before our official scan, and thinking down a different path. Either way, finding out the gender will be exciting! I want to cherish every moment of pregnancy.

How interesting that IUI s play more to boys. Did they tell you why?

  21. Cherrybee

    papaya / 10570 posts

    @StrawberryBee: @marionberry: Is it because:

Boy sperm are nimble and quick. They dart into the tubes, racing toward the egg (it's probably because the XY chromasome combo is lighter than the female XX). But they burn out quickly.....

Girl sperm are slow and steady. But like the tortoise overtaking the hare, they are hardy little things and they last the course. The girl sperm lie in waiting for the egg, long after the boy sperm have faded away.

So..... if you BD at the point of ovulation, the sperm most likely to reach the egg is the boy sperm. If you BD a few days before O, the sperm most likely to reach the egg is the girl sperm.

With IUI, the sperm is being introduced at the point of O - so you're more likely to get a boy. BUT remember - this is a theory and in no way an exact science: my friend conceived non-identical twins through IVF and they were both girls!

Same with the nub theory and the skull shape theory for predicting gender early. If they were reliable, our healthcare professionals would use the theories to tell us the gender at 12 weeks. They are clearly not!! You never know, you may get your girl after all!!!

  22. StrawberryBee

    nectarine / 2530 posts

    @Cherrybee: very interesting, thanks!!!

  23. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@cherrybee: Exactly, and on top of that, they place the sperm right at the top of the uterus, so where the cervical mucus can often prevent boys from getting there as quick, there is nothing to stop them and they race toward the egg. However, there are still instances of girl, so I can keep my fingers crossed. We also had a 10% chance of twins, but there is officially just one baby in there.

@marionberry: @Cherrybee: @Mrs squirreld: Had an elective U/S done today (I didn't even know we had one near us, but another bee put the bug in me, I found one, and they had an opening this weekend ^_^). Only 16 weeks along, but she was pretty confident that it's a girl! I'm still mentally preparing myself for that to change at our anatomy U/S, but it was still such a happy relief to see the heart beating and her bouncing all over the place (apparently my placenta is in front, so it's cushioning some of the movement. I still haven't felt it).

and she was sucking her thumb :D. And we now have video of it!

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@strawberrybee: That's great news! See, we were totally wrong and you got the girl you wanted! I need to see if we have a place like that around here. I'm sure we do. I really want to know early, lol. That's so cute that she sucks her thumb. So happy for you.

@marionberry: thanks! I just couldn't resist finding out (at least preliminarily). I had a wonderful experience, and am so glad I did it. The video alone makes it all worth it. Going to wait for the anatomy scan before I let myself fully believe :).

@chibee: I put up one yesterday on our September 2013 Mamas thread if you want to check it out. I'd post it here but it's not saved on my work computer. How are you doing? I watch your chart every few days for news. Are you guys still just letting it happen when it happens or have you seen a doctor about it yet? Miss you!

  38. chibee

    pear / 1974 posts

@marionberry: just checked it out - how adorable!!! We are taking a break from TTC at the moment - we decided to start it back up FOR REAL this time, in March which is just around the corner. As you can see from my chart, I'm in the middle of my cycle at the moment, and waiting to O - so if I happen to O when March rolls around (which is very possible since I've been o'ing so late!) this cycle I could be POAS! How have you been??

  39. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@chibee: That's great that you guys are going to start trying again soon! I bet the break was much needed. Have you thought about going to your OB about your long cycles in the meantime? If there's anything I've learned, it's not to wait and just keep trying despite a lack of results. I've been really good! Just 10weeks preggo right now and getting excited to start showing soon. Our ultrasound made everything feel real and has stopped me from mc worries.

  40. chibee

    pear / 1974 posts

@marionberry: Truthfully, I'm being lazy about the OB - I canceled the appointment I had a while back, since we were taking a break anyway, and now I'm like, let's try and see what happens, but you are right. I should prob at least talk to her. Maybe after this cycle - and this looks like another long one! CD24 and NO o yet. We are going away for a week this Saturday so depending on how things play out, it might be the perfect time to start trying!

So glad you are doing well - do you feel pregnant? Idk if that's a weird question haha my friend said she didn't feel pregnant for a while, even when she was really tired in the first trimester
