which room would you redo?
I would do our living room. We really need new couches, rug, and accessories.

Holy cow. Tough call! I think I could do a lot of reno in the kitchen...or the bathroom!

Our bedroom probably needs it the most but we really need a new couch.

Our master bathroom! It's very outdated. I think we could make 5k stretch and be able to completely renovate it because we can do a lot of things ourselves.

We live in a tiny apartment for now, and live like students. but we desperately want new furniture. Everything is from craigslist. I'm sitting on a futon. I'm 29. Uggggggh.

Could I use it on our backyard? I was watching yard crashers over the weekend and swooning over creating the ultimate kid backyard with an adult enteraining space.

Master bath! That would be just enough to re-do the shower (I haaaaate the shower), replace the fixtures, and paint the walls. *swoons*

I would pick our master bathroom. It is completely non-functional right now.

@swedishfish: We need to finish our basement but it is going to cost way more then $5K.

@Silva: lol! we had cinder-block furniture FOREVER.
Hm. Back yard patio or living room. To make them more enjoyable spaces for us to hang out.

Kitchen or the backyard or the living room. Can I have $15k instead?

Kitchen!!!!!! New floor, stove and countertops.

I would do our living room or paint as much as 5k would get me, our paint colors were picked by a contractor and I don't really like them.

Our bedroom! I would love to get a new king sized bed and nice mattress, new bedding, and actually decorate the walls (still almost bare after 4 years hereā¦ what up)

Oh wow, that's a hard question. I'm not sure we could do our kitchen for that amount (needs a lot of love) so maybe our living room walls or new dressers/night stands in our bedroom.

I would finish our downstairs bedrooms, they need mud and tape, paint, flooring, lighting and furniture!

@Mae: I had no idea what room we would do first...until I saw your answer. Master bedroom! Would love matching furniture and a king size bed!

We just did our master bath and I don't think 5k would cut it on the kitchen. I guess I'd go with our guest bath.

We just renovated our home; I would use it to fix up our yard instead!

I'd redo our guest bath -- it only has a tub, no shower, which is super awkward for guests... That or I'd get all new bedroom furniture!
bananas / 9973 posts
Kitchen! I'd want new counters, new sink, SS appliances, and add a gas line/gas stovetop!
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
I'd buy furniture! We don't have any rooms to redo though!

I want to redo our kitchen and bathrooms! It's not enough to redo it all... So maybe just the guest bath and powder room!

@chopsuey: Well you are going to have a brand new house......

Family room. $5,000 would take care of the window treatments we want to get and have been dragging our feet to get.
watermelon / 14467 posts
I'd take it and redo our bathrooms. We could do some of the work ourselves to save money, but they are both stuck in the 70's and it's got to go.

@Smurfette: our basement is 1/2 finished, 1/2 unfinished. I want to redo the finished part because it's got some stellar wood paneling.
