i'd either pimp out our master bath as in: full feature shower with even larger jacuzzi tub and that lighting that makes make-up look really good and install a vanity area for me to sit and get ready...
Or....i'd invest it into landscaping. My husband likes trees and stones and all that. He would ask that we invest it into the yard

@rahlyrah: I looooove Yard Crashers!
I would either do our yard, or finish out our upstairs bonus room.

Bathroom. 5K isn't enough for the kitchen or any other work and the bathroom could use a facelift.
Our house has a non working steam room in the finished basement. DH and I are talking about a luxury bathroom with two shower heads and such!! Someday, anyways

We live in a relatively new, very small condo so it's only our furniture that needs upgrading. New couches and a new bed for us I think.

Either a fabulous deck and some new plants in the back yard or some new furniture and decor for our master!

I would cheat and buy new, pretty couches. Then use the leftover to change my bed and buy LO some different furniture.

Kitchen or bathroom. They're both original from the 40s... And pink.

Living room! Couch, coffee table, rug and wall art would probably be about 5k.

@CupQuakeWalk: DH is the same way! We had bids done for our unfinished backyard at my old house and for everything DH drew out, it would have been $20k, ugh. Insane.

It's not enough to do the kitchen, so I'd do the entryway/entrance nook and maybe even a new rug for the laundry room.

I would splurge on a new couch and armchairs. The ones I have on my wish list would wipe out the budget pretty quickly.

I would buy new bedroom furniture because $5k isn't enough to redo a bathroom or kitchen and those are the places that need redoing in our house.

@Silva: this is us, except we don't even have a futon! We try to go a step up from student stuff when we can, but it is pieced together, and a lot are hand me downs. I think I could realistically buy some decent furniture for our whole place for that much money!

@HLK208: We got a quote to level off our backyard and make a retaining wall.....$30K! Smaller places told us that it was too big of a job for them. So looks likes it won't be done for years. DH is so bummed.

We only have the kitchen left to do, so I guess that! We already bought appliances so 5k would likely be a good start to cupboards and counters but we'd need a little more

Living room! We are both really wanting a new couch and end tables/coffee table. We're waiting until we buy a new house to make the purchases though.
