No, not yet. LO is nearly 3 and I don't even take her to mass with me yet, so I haven't really immersed her in Catholicism yet, aside from baptism. Part of the reason is that she's a very "busy" child and the other is that my husband isn't Catholic so it's almost too easy to leave her home.
She starts at Catholic preschool in September and at that point I am going to make a much bigger effort to incorporate church teachings.

If they're eating what I'm eating, yes, they abstain by default. If I need to feed them leftovers from the fridge which have meat (or the only baby pouches I have on hand contain meat), then I don't stress about it.

Not right now. She needs that protein and I'm not worried about it. When she is older, most likely we will all do it as a family.

I don't usually fast, but if we are having dinner with my mum on a Wednesday or Friday we all eat meat free. Mum is making lentil soup tonight to help ease the cold that has run us all over.

@PinkElephant: that's kind of what we do. I'll offload the meat leftovers on him! Or if dinner is something he can't/won't eat (like tomato soup and grilled cheese), I will make him something sith meat.
But we don't eat meat for every dinner and do meatless meals aren't unusual for us or something i stress about.
I just find it a bit odd my MIL offers him meat on Fridays without asking me first.

I thought children were excluded from abstaining...at least that is what my mom always said. As a kid, we ate fish on Fridays but now we do not observe that at all.

@looch: they are. But in general we try together er him to eat what we eat so I don't see the need to go out of my way to give him meat. Obviously I don't really expect a two year to fast, but I just don't see it as necessary for him to eat meat either. And he really likes fish.
We are going over there this weekend and when she was discussing meals she was like, "well what should LO have while the rest of us eat fish? He can have meat." I just thought it was a bit odd. But I didn't abstain from meat till I was much older than most kids becausey mom cooked and she didn't conbert till I was 10. So I wasn't sure what the norm in actual practice was

@jedeve: See, my parents did feel the need to give us meat as much as possible when we were kids...not because we didn't like fish, but because they thought that we needed the extra nutrition. They were very old school when it came to eating guidelines when I was growing up, but they since have added a lot more fish to their diet and significantly cut back on red meat.

So I'm not catholic, but my husband is hindu and generally doesn't eat red meat or pork. Well...sommmmetimes he eats red meat, but very very rarely.
So far, I give LO everything (because I'm doing the cooking), but if there's a substitute--like turkey bacon or turkey sausage, I do choose that.
I don't know if that will change as she gets older and more aware of different meats and what daddy is eating.

@looch: as kids we always fasted for easter & christmas - mainly because my mum would be cooking and guilt tripping us, and also when we would be taking communion. I'm not sure about Catholicism but in Orthodoxy children are encouraged to participate in fasting from a young age.
