I would not apologize again. I think he owes you an apology for being so rude when you tried to apologize originally. If the parking is a pain it seems like it's just something you all have to deal with.

I wouldn't go out of my way to speak to him, but I wouldn't avoid him or be hostile either. Like you said, you stand by your decision in the parking lot, but you did inconvenience him, so you apologized. The end. Whether he accepts the apology or not is up to him, and he chose not to, so whatever.

I would just leave it but not avoid him. If you stand by your choice, I don't see why you should continue to apologize.

I feel like if I stood by my choice I wouldn't have apologized, so to me it kind of depends on what exactly went down. We have a pull through line with a small portico in the middle and then a large parking lot. There are a few asshole parents at our school who double park under the portico when it's raining and they block in multiple people and stop the flow of the lot. It infuriates me. So honestly if one of them tried to apologize to me I'd probably say something rude too, because their action was really rude. So if you did something like that, I would apologize again and then be done with it. since you say you did something that was a choice rather than an accident, I would probably want to make it right since you'll need to see him on a regular basis. He will probably be more polite out of the heat of the moment as well. If you truly don't feel like you did anything wrong, then I would leave it alone and ignore him.

getyou into a physical fight in NYC. Honestly, if I were that dad I'd probably have said the same thing as I think it's a pretty uncool thing to do. But at this point, probably not much else you should or could do so seems like ignoring it is probably best.

It sounds like the parking at the school is the issue that needs to be solved. Maybe he talked to the director more to address the overall issue instead of just tattling on you. It also sounds like you got there before him, and didn't have much of a choice. If I were him, I'd have more of a 'we're all in this shitty parking situation together' kind of attitude. I hope he's perfect and never makes mistakes that he has to apologize for!

I would say after reading the longer explanation that you are lucky all he said was save it Around here you would have been told much worse. I would just steer clear and not say anything else about it, but seriously, don't take a spot someone else was signalling for it the future. It's crazy rude.

Kind of surprised that so many are saying they "would have" done "worse" than the dad in this situation. Yeah, I'd have been super pissed if someone took my parking spot, but it does sound like a difficult situation at the school all around. I'm assuming this wasn't his first time there and he's aware of the parking mess. I also don't see the point in adding more rudeness to an already tense/difficult situation, doesn't seem very productive. And yes, I used to live in NYC, so I get difficult parking...I probably would have talked to the director like he did, but to address the overall problem, not just bitch about the particular situation. At this point, I think you were right to apologize, but that's all you can do. I would just try to forget about it and do what you can to not have the same situation happen again.

The other driver's reaction was completely justified. Apology or not, taking that spot was a dick move. Your time is not more valuable than anyone else's.

@MrsSCB: I'm a little curious what the worse is! I could see cursing happening easily but maybe not at a daycare.

I don't see what the director is really supposed to do though. Seems like unless they can somehow physically change the parking ($$$ if possible at all) it's up to parents/drivers to be courteous.

They walked by after and taunted, "Face it lady, we're younger, and faster!" She then rams their car, and as she was driving off, called out, "Face it, I'm older and have more insurance!"

@Corduroy: I understand you felt you were between a rock and a hard place, so I won't comment on what you did or didn't do. I will say it's probably a good idea to steer clear of him for the time being, but maybe also question the director whether they are exploring any resolution to the parking problem. I'm sure this isn't the first time something like this has occurred there, and may have influenced his frustration somewhat.

I still think that's a crazy reaction from him.. If someone stole my parking spot I would roll my eyes and keep moving because hellloooo I'm not insane.

@AprilFool: oh I'm not saying it's insane to be annoyed. I would be too. I was directing my comment to those that said they would have done more then what this guy did. That seems a bit crazy to me. I can't imagine yelling at another parent at my sons pre school because they took my parking spot.
