I think I have a bit of a photographic memory. During exams or something, when I had to think back to my studying, I used to think back to the page the information was on, how it looked, and what the words said.

Absolutely! It would be soooo handy.
@Rubies: Sounds like photographic memory to me!

Probably not. Some things you just want to be able to forget.

@Rubies: I am exactly the same way! It sure did come in handy on tests!

I think I might have a bit of a photographic memory. Like Rubies and Mamamoose, i would try to picture the page from my notes that had the answer when I was stuck in an exam. The bad part, is that I find I get "mental images" very easily. For that reason, I don't enjoy hearing about people's sex lives, for example!

I think that this could be very handy in certain situations but I wouldn't want to be one of those people who have explicit memories of every experience in their lives.

Yes, but not just for the total visual recall. Eidetic memories are also able to recall all of the other sensory memories in incredible detail and with remarkable accuracy.
I had a friend in junior high that had an eidetic memory . . . she was quite an odd bird--amazing and kind, but odd--and really had a rough go of it in school. We enjoyed being friends because she helped me see (and remember) things differently, and she said I made her feel normal.

@Grace: Me, too! It was very handy on tests, or when I forget something at home and need to tell DH where I put it. It's not such a great thing when people are talking about things I don't want to visualize.

@Rubies: I'm the same way, I could remember that on page 17 was the answer, however that didn't always help me remember the answer! I could remember paragraph and everything but not what the words always said. It helped though for sure!

I have a very good memory and can remember conversations in detail and then scare the people that I've had the conversations with. Sometimes it's really useful - I'm rarely wrong about things past, but really frustrating if I can't remember something.
When I was younger I used to get tested on pattern and color memory because of this weird ability (my parents are psychologists). I could hustle adults at the memory game.

Yes! I figure that I would have had it easier in school if so. I am a horrible test taker.

@oliviaoblivia: I totally dominated my parents in memories games from the time I was very small. It always freaked them out!! We had a game where the cards had pictures on the front and colors on the back. I think there were four different possible colors on the back of the cards. I memorized what color each card was so I would have a better chance at picking matches right from the start. All the way through college my mom would randomly pull out the cards and see if I could remember what color was on the back and I always could. It just never got out of my head.

Yes, absolutely! I have the world's worst memory, so I would take anything at this point! I hear it only gets worse after having babies, so I am in big trouble!

I used to have one before I got deathly sick for a few years. I miss my mind.

N@MsMamaBear:
Ditto. But then I want selective memory because remembering the good stuff helps get through the tough times.

I would love one! I bet college would have been so much easier, lol.
