I work in architecture as a designer & after 10 years I’m burnt out and daydreaming of trying something new.
If I could switch tomorrow I think I’d be excited to try my skills at teaching… probably high school or college. Although if I could pick something less realistic I’d say travel writer/ food critic, but my writing skills leave a lot to be desired!
Anyone else daydream of a career swap?

Yes! I'm an accountant and would love to do something different. I think when I go back to work eventually (I'll be a SAHM) I'll change careers; I fancy being a travel agent or pre-school teacher.

I'm a preschool teacher and I absolutely love it, but if I could switch for awhile, I'd do something that pays LOTS of money!!

@regberadaisy: You love it more than I do! I work mostly in multifamily residential right now & do most of the commercial/interior work that my firm gets. I think after the LO is here & things settle down I’ll probably look for a more commercial/retail interiors focused firm. I really enjoy those types of projects! It’ll be good change of pace from condos & apartments.

I'm also burnt out with my job (graphic design)... So if money were no object, I'd want to rehab furniture. I'm actually going to try it out with a few projects soon and see if I can figure out how to sell stuff!

@sarah.clarisse: Mainly commercial, healthcare & education! At my last job I worked on a children's psych center out in Bronx, NY. Right now I just finished up a Polar Bear Arctic Exhibit and currently working on a few small renovation projects for a hospital.

I work in HR. If I were to change careers I'd be a SAHM :)I am good at what I do..
I guess if I had to choose a job that didn't pay in hugs and boogers, event planning. That's my favorite part of my job!

I sometimes think of doing something more creative like cake decorating or wedding planning. As an undergrad I had dreams of being a forensic anthropologist though, especially those people who build faces on skulls. It just required too much anthropology schooling and not much guaranteed forensic work.

@sarah.clarisse: This is my favorite game to play on my drive into work. I daydream about event planning, owning a smoothie shop, working for friends... depends on the day. Sometimes I'll daydream about doing a lower pressure job like receptionist, and sometimes I'll daydream about being able to do something more creative. So far my favorite daydream is being a lottery winner!

I LOVE being a teacher and feel fortunate to have my dream job. If I *had* to switch, I would be a Child Life Specialist. I almost went into that program after university and part of me wants to go back to school some day to take the courses. Such a neat career!

@char54: That seems like the coolest job ever! I looked into it a bit at one point, but like most jobs I chicken out because of the schooling. I so don't want to go back to school lol.
I would maybe do something tech-y, be an RN or LVN, start my own bakery, or be an event planner. I wouldn't mind being a SAHM forever, but since that likely won't happen, I really need ot figure out what to do with myself when the time comes to go back to work.

I was an attorney for 8 years and recently decided to SAH for family reasons but I was also totally burnt out. In happy with my career change for the moment.
I think I'd like being a party planner or event Coordinator in my next life.

I would love to own a small bakery or to own my own store that sells fun and carefully curated home goods and accessories. I want to do these both SO bad, I just need to figure out how to make one happen!
