Knowing what you know now, if you could time warp back to when you were picking a college major, what would you choose? Would you pick a different major?
I would probably go with the same thing but I'd tell myself to pursue grad school.

I'd stick with my original pick! Computer Science was a good choice.

I think I'd go into nursing (I did mechanical engineering)

Occupational Therapy. I would love to go get my degree in it, but would have to take a ton of basic science classes to get into the program.

Biology, then go to grad school for a specific health-related occupation like PA, speech pathology, pharmacy, or occupational therapy.

I switched majors halfway through, and regret it now. So I'd either stick with my original choice (linguistics), or change all together and take something science-y so I could do a masters in Audiology.

Same, actually. Communications - journalism and PR. Grad degree in corporate communications.

I had a double major in Anthropology and Urban Studies. I also minored in Economics. Looking back I should have dropped Urban Studies and the minor and done Biology or Chemistry as another major (or minor). Having a science and all the pre-med requirements would have enabled more options for me later on like becoming a MD or PA. Now I just can't imagine starting over with bachelor level science classes.

I still love architecture but I might try a minor in elementary education.

not so much a time warp since i just had to do this i'm taking a couple classes and then hoping to get into the nursing program, they're all really competitive though

I'm super happy to be going for nursing. But if I could start all over at 18, I would get a degree is biology or microbiology and then go to medical school. Being a doctor was my dream.

I am happy with my career and knowledge. I just wish I could pick to have no student loans.

I would still do engineering, but I would do mechanical instead of chemical.

Nursing. I've thought about this a lot because while I love teaching, I would definitely not do it again if I had the chance.

@lilteacherbee: i stopped just short of getting my teaching degree because i, too, love teaching, but i just couldn't deal with the BS that goes along with teaching in a public school (and i need to make a living, so i can't afford to teach in a private school!). trying for my RN now. you're still young, you could switch if you ever wanted to!

@mrs. bird: Very true. Especially with a husband who is a teacher, too and I may go back one day, but right now, student loans are depressing enough with just one degree.

@lilteacherbee: student loans can be so overwhelming! i'm hoping that because i don't have a full course load to take and i'm at a state school, i can make it out without any student loan debt, but who knows. are there any student loan forgiveness programs for teachers in your area?

Maybe graphic design. I'd pick something that I could easily do at home!

I think I'd end up picking the same thing. My job really suits my personality.

I double majored in psychology and philosophy. I honestly feel like philosophy taught me to be a better writer, reader, and overall analytical thinker. Psychology was super fun and interesting! I am taking my nursing pre-reqs right now (because without a Masters or PhD in either of my majors, there aren't any jobs). So, I don't regret my majors but I probably would have done nursing originally.

@loveisstrange: awww! YOu know, my brother was a Theater major and he works in his field! (kinda). I mean, he was originally a theater teacher in a school while he worked at night directing plays on the local level. Then he got into reality TV and now he produces segments on an HGTV show. Didn't get into TV until his 30's! And a lot of his theater friends are doing various things in the business--one works in commercials, another does costuming and stage design on Broadway. And we all went to a crappy state school in Texas. =)

I'd have kept my math double major. I was a few credits short and wanted a light senior year so I only kept linguistics. And now I work in finance.

I'd probably choose med school. I still love my field of study (Biochemistry) but am growing tired of research with all the grant writing and the constant pressure to publish

English. I minored in it but wish I majored and pursued a career that involved more writing. I miss it now.

@Blueberry: hey that's awesome! I'm in nursing school right now. It's so hard as a parent but I know it will be so worth it. Have you applied for the program yet? Are yours really competitive? There's about a 25% acceptance rate with my program.

Planning!
A more focused/practical program related to Geography! My (physical) geography degree is pretty useless, especially since I didn't stay in school and get my teaching credentials. Marks aren't good enough for any graduate program, so now rely on my professional exp working in a completely unrelated field! It'll probably hurt me down the road.

Physical Therapy, definitely. After having such a wonderful experience with DH's therapists, I wish I could go back and do that. My major was broadcasting production and I'm currently doing phone tech support. It's hard to get ahead in my industry as a woman.

Same major but I'd go straight into a grad program instead of taking time off. I majored in speech language pathology.

What I'm doing now - Global Maternal and Child Health. Then masters and eventually doctorate in Midwifery. That's the plan.

Well, I should've done nursing the first time around instead of going to school twice! I originally thought I wanted to be a vet and majored in equine science. Decided I didn't want to do vet school, and there's not much to do with that degree. So I eventually went back and got my nursing degree. Had a lot of pre-reqs done due to my first degree, but otherwise I wish I didn't have all the student loans that I do!
ETA: It's interesting to me that so many people wish they would've done nursing!
