I've heard to start taking stool softeners before labor so that you aren't terrified of pooping after birth.
I bought my Colace..now when should I start taking them? I'm 35.5 weeks.

When you're done giving birth. It may be TMI but my body "cleared out EVERYTHING" right when I went into labor do that's not a problem and I'm pretty sure the nurse gave me colace right after I gave birth

I wouldn't take them before labor... I did take them for a good long time after though. And I didn't poop for ... well I was at the hospital for 5 days, so... 6 or 7 days total (5 or 6 post partum). I took them for the first two weeks, and then again from 6-8 weeks.

I didn't take any before. My body cleared itself out at the beginning of my labor. I started taking the Colace right after I had ds. Even with the Colace I don't think I went until 4-5 days after because I was so terrified. It wasn't too bad though. Just make sure you are drinking tons of water and eat a lot of fiber.
