I just finished a four day water fast... and just ate my very first meal! Haha that's why I've been posting about food lately... I was about to break my fast.
If you didn't eat anything for four days and then ate one meal, what would it be?

Probably margarita pizza. Fresh tomato and mozzarella.
What did you eat? I could never fast.

I could not do a four day fast unless sick, I don't think. But I did do a weekend fast to raise awareness for hunger with my youth group growing up. Then (I'm embarrassed to admit), I ate an entire Italian Trio (lasagna, chicken parm, and spaghetti) from Olive Garden. I was soo hungry.
@mrbee: can I ask why you fasted? And what are you going to eat?

PIZZA! I once broke a fast with Domino's even though that's a big no no it was so worth it.

I don't know how you did that.
At that point, probably anything in front of me!

@winniebee: Bee had roasted some brussel sprouts earlier this week, so I ate the leftovers (not too much)... and also had two eggs on toast. And just a bit of sliced mushrooms with mayo... and an apple.
It was very satisfying! Didn't want to eat anything heavy though, since it will take my body a day to adjust back to eating food.

@mrsjazz: Hmm, tell me it was a Hawaiian pizza from Domino's! That was my fave...

@mrbee: i can't believe you don't pass out from the fasting!

You only had water for four days?? Wow, I would've passed out.
I would eat whatever was around at that point!

It would probably make me sick after not eating for that long, but I would gorge on some yummy TexMex.

@LovelyPlum: I try to fast at least once a year... I find it really is great for my health. It clears my sinuses (which had been clogged for years and years before my first fast), detoxes my system and leaves me feeling really great. I'd like to water fast once every other month or so, but I always put it off since not eating is so boring.
I actually find it not hard at all to do a water fast. It's very different from eating a little bit, which leaves you constantly hungry. When you fast, you are not hungry at all... the worst part is that on day two, you get a headache from the detox. And you can't really take a painkiller, since a big part of a fast is giving your liver a break.

@mrsjazz: Oh and here I thought maybe we were food soulmates! Guess we'll have to stick to brunch...

Oh my. This thread is worse than "Was giving birth more or less painful than you imagined it would be?" thread.
Not eating food for four days sounds horrible. Good for you @mrbee for doing it though!
If I ever found myself in this situation, after a fast I would have Ham with grainy mustard, scalloped potatoes and asparagus. With Cap'N Crunch for dessert.

@delight: Pretty sure that giving birth is harder than fasting for four days haha!!

@mrbee: Interesting. I don't know if I could do that. Maybe, but I think my acid reflux would go crazy. I've done cleanses before, which I really enjoyed. I think I would like the result, just not the process! Kudos to you for doing it
ETA: I agree, not eating *is* boring!

@LovelyPlum: I used to get sick 2-4 times a year... it was horrible. In the past year, I haven't been sick once! It's probably a coincidence, but I think it might have to do with my sinuses finally unclogging after the last fast...
Well also, I've become an obsessive handwasher. So one or the other has had a dramatic impact on my health!

@mrbee: it's because you go into ketosis when you don't eat anything. If you eat even a little bit, you bring yourself out of ketosis, hence the hunger.
I once went 12 weeks with only drinking 900 calories a day on a doctor-approved diet. And then with RnY I fasted for a couple of weeks before & after surgery & then slowly reintroduced food.

@mrbee: why were you fasting?
I once did a 30 hour fast as a fundraiser for hungry children around the world! We spent the time collecting food donations from the community and doing fundraisers. It was awesome! They made us a big spaghetti dinner at the end of it.

It would probably be something easy on my stomach, like soup, and then a turkey sandwich. I feel like I'd want to go nuts and eat a ton of something super...something and make myself sick.
Not quite the same, but over the course of my L&D I wasn't allowed to eat for about 24 hours (I don't think I could have if I had wanted to--I was a vomit-machine). When they finally gave me the okay to eat all I could bring myself to eat was a small cup of applesauce and then a small cup of mac and cheese. Once that had a chance to really settle I had a turkey sandwich.

I couldn't eat for 4 days after my c section.
My first meal was a grilled cheese sandwich.

@Mrs. Pen: the 30 hour famine...i think I have blocked it from my memory. Haha.
I would have pizza. I would choose pizza as any type of meal (onpy eat one thing for the rest of your life, what to eat after labor, what would your last meal be).

mmm food i've done a 4 day fast too... i can't remember what i ate afterwards, but probably something like cereal, toast or congee. and then the meal after that was just yummy junky food..... mmmm....
my friend does yearly 40 day fasts (for faith reasons -- usually just water, or water + clear juice). she said it takes about a week or 2 to begin eating normally.
anyway, right now in my 3rd tri i can barely 'fast' for an hour! i just had dinner and my mouth is salivating at every food thought! arrrrghh!
