I don't drink soft drinks or eat fast food but I do love my carbs and sweets. I'm up 8lbs and need to be in a bathing suit for a vacation. What's your go-to weight loss plan for this kind of situation?

Lots (and lots) of water, cut back on salt and carbs, and eat plenty of veggies and protein!

No eating or drinking anything but water after 6pm!
Having a cup of tea instead of a snack when I feel like munching.

Lots of water, cut the salt and carbs, eat a lot of protein and veggies, and exercise....count calories.
eating late at night hasn't been proven to do anything to your body negatively, provided you allocate your calories appropriately. So if you can't eat dinner until 7 or 8, don't worry about it! I eat dinner at 5pm and usually need a snack around 8:30....if I'm hungry, I eat

Counting every calorie that goes in my mouth, including gum. Cutting 700 calories a day (through a combination of food and work out) to lose 3500 cals a week.

Track calories, drink lots of water (min of 64oz a day), watch portion sizes. Generally, weight loss is as basic as calories in vs calories out. 3500 calories a week cut equals 1lb of loss a week. Thats 500 kcal a day. Here's a calculator that is great for calculating your TDEE so you know what to cut to. http://iifym.com/iifym-calculator/
I eat until 8 each night, definitely still losing weight. lol. I think it's just a matter of "no late night snacking" kind of thing.
5lbs, or even 8lbs, is totally doable and healthy for a month of weight loss.

eliminate carbs/go paleo, drink only water, count calories, and do HIIT workouts.

Honestly, I would find a suit I love myself in as-is and enjoy my vacation.

@loveisstrange: This says I need to cut my caloric intake down to 1100 calories! I typically eat more like 2000. I'm not sure I can cut out that many calories! Yikes.... I am so not good at dieting. I've been using My Fitness Pal, and having trouble staying at 1500 calories. Sigh.

@erinpye: I love the idea of that, honestly but I'm not going to love myself in any suit. I don't feel like myself and I want to get back to feeling good. I've had 2 miscarriages and the holidays in the past 2 months and I comfort ate. I want to get back to feeling like myself again.

I'd cut carbs/sugar and start exercising. And drink a ton of water and green tea.

@travellingbee: Then cut what you can and make up for the rest with exercise. Just be kind to yourself. Going on a crazy crash diet is not how you lose the weight and keep it off.

@loveisstrange: I'm going to start walking the track after school. Hopefully that will help.

I did the Whole 30 and it really helped change my relationship with food and I lost a significant amount of weight. I liked that I wasn't counting calories, but focusing on healthy foods.
If you don't want to do that extreme, I'd cut all sugar (read labels, sugar is in everything), cut alcohol, eat clean, drink lots of water, and work out.

if you are trying to cut out carbs..
i had to cut out wheat/gluten for my LO while I am nursing but i LOVE carbs.. I found this quinoa/brown rice pasta from TJ that is sooooo good! its been a lifesaver b/c I can now still have "pasta" but have substituted out a lot of the carbs I used to have..
it has brown rice in it so it's not all quinoa but I think it helps!

Drink lots of water, strength train, and completely cut sugar and refined carbs altogether. Half of each meal should be veggies or fruit. No processed foods at all.

@travellingbee: Paleo all the way. I had 15 lbs to lose at my 6 wk PP checkup and that fueled me to try paleo. I lost 4 lbs in the first week and felt like I ate a ton - just cut out the processed junk, grains, and sugar. I was sold. Within 2 or 3 weeks, I had lost the 15lbs and ended up about 7 lbs under my PrePreg weight for the yr and a half until I got pregnant again

@travellingbee: definately cut out all high sodium food and added salt. Cut back on carbs and drink lots of water. By just cutting out salt alone I lost 5 lbs of water weight.

I did this last summer before a beach vacation! I started running 3x a week, weights everyday afterwork. Lean meat, steamed veggies, no soda, juice or junk food.

What has always worked for me is clean eating and body weight exercising!

I feel like the weight number doesn't matter as much as looking toned. Personally, I'd do some simple weight training and planks and stuff. I would also avoid the sweets and anything that tends to make me bloated.

Cut dairy/processed food, lift weights, do cardio, drink LOTS of water, and get enough protein

I'm in the same situation as I'm going to the BVI in 6 weeks - I plan on starting a 1 day juice fast to kick everything off, then I am thinking of doing the Whole30 with lots of exercise. At the very least I will cut out alcohol and added sugar.

@mrskrb: and @travellingbee:, I'm trying to do this too! We should turn this into a support thread because I know I'm going to have a hard time being consistent. My birthday is next month, and it's kind of a big one (35). And I've had about 5 postpartum pounds to lose for about a year now I'd like to ask for new clothes for my birthday but I'm up a size in pants. I'd love to lose the weight so that I can buy clothes and feel good in them.
