I didn't have any disappointment with my daughter (we were TG) but I am more worried about it going into our second/last.

I voted for both. We have a boy right now and would like a girl but if we had a girl first we would want a boy next.
Not sure this is gender disappointment more of a we want one of both type deals. Of course if we end up with only boys we would be pretty happy still.

When I was pregnant with my twins I was 99.9% sure there would be no more babies after that. When I found out they were boys I have to admit I was a little sad about not having a daughter. It was short lived though. I just started looking at all the positives about three little boys and I knew it would be perfect.

I've been curious about this. It seems like so many moms I know want girls, but worldwide (and even in the US? Not sure) the overall preference is still for boys.
With my first I was so positive he was a boy, I don't even know if that's what I wanted! I kind of think so, though that made me feel sexist. Then with my second I kinda wanted a girl just to have something different but am excited to be a boy mom!

@jedeve: Man I wish I could find it online but there was a study that developed countries like the US, England and Canada perfer girls over boys ... I think the reasoning was that they are easier to care for. If you haven't notice there is way more baby/toddler/kid stuff for girls (toys... clothes... etc).
For other countries they perfer boys because they need laborers for their farms or family buiness or just need them to go out in the world to work to being the family money and girls are weak in that sense.
I think you do have a point and the study did mention it for "cultures" there is a more drive to have boys. China (along with other asian countries) is pretty deloveped but the culture pretty much says boys are better than girls and you are not a man without having a male decendent that can carry down your family name.

@Raindrop: that's interesting! I knew the reasons why historically and internationally boys have been preferred but not why girls are some places. I wasn't sure if moms just wanted girls and that's why it seemed like all the moms I knew who were disappointed it was because they were having a boy instead of a girl.

@jedeve: Right. I will trying to find the study. I read it a while ago.
I remember it mostly focused on the USA and England.Mostly how the USA it such a melting pot that it most people can freely (and not be judged) to abondon past cultural reasons for having a boy.
Since girls are thought of as cuter and more easy to take care of... our USA culture has shifted into a "wanting girls over boys" mentality. Which is why a lot of consumer items are geared toward girls.
This sort of cycles and causing new parents to want girls since the media/comsumerism is geared towards girls now.
It was a very interesting study. I will definitely try to find it and post it here if I can.

I don't know the gender of my baby yet. I am kind of rooting for a boy, but I don't think I'll be at all upset if it's a girl!

I have a girl and I was happy (I secretly wanted a girl even though I was sure she was a boy) but honestly next time I wuld be okay with either. One of each or giving DD a sister. I know DH will have some disappointment if our next is a girl & would want to try for a boy.
